Cobeja abre el plazo para proponer un juez de paz sustituto

The Cobeja City Council has opened the process to propose to the Governing Chamber of the High Court of Justice of Castilla-La Mancha the appointment of a Substitute Justice of the Peace for the town. The announcement, signed by Mayor José Luís Aguirre Hernández on September 25, 2026, is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Toledo number 187, dated September 30, 2026, with reference No. I.- 4451 and verification code 2026.00004451. Interested parties have a period of fifteen business days, counting from the day following the publication, to submit their application.

The procedure complies with the provisions of articles 101 and 102 of the Organic Law of the Judiciary, which grant city councils the initiative to propose the appointment of justices of the peace and their substitutes. The proposal corresponds to the Plenary of the Municipal Corporation, which will submit it to the Governing Chamber of the High Court of Justice of Castilla-La Mancha, the competent body to resolve the appointment.

Requirements for applicants

To participate in the selection process, candidates must meet the requirements required to be part of the judicial career, in accordance with articles 302 and 303 of Organic Law 6/1985, of July 1, of the Judiciary:

  • Possess Spanish nationality and be of legal age.
  • Not be physically or mentally impaired for the exercise of the judicial function.
  • Reside in the town, unless authorized by the Governing Chamber of the High Court of Justice.
  • Be in full exercise of civil rights.
  • Not be subject to any of the causes of incapacity provided for in article 303 of the Organic Law of the Judiciary.
  • Not have been convicted of an intentional crime unless rehabilitation has been obtained.
  • Not be prosecuted or indicted for an intentional crime.
  • Not incur the causes of incapacity, incompatibility, or prohibition of articles 389 to 397 of the Organic Law of the Judiciary.

How to submit the application

Applications must be addressed in writing to the Mayor’s Office of Cobeja and submitted to the Entry Registry of the City Council or through any of the channels provided for in article 16.4 of Law 39/2015, of October 1, on the Common Administrative Procedure of Public Administrations.

The application form, accompanied by a responsible declaration, a copy of the D.N.I. (National ID), and a curriculum vitae or supporting documentation, is available to interested parties at the City Council and on the municipal electronic office, accessible at the address https://cobeja.sedelectronica.es/info.

Deadline and processing

The enabled period is fifteen business days starting from the day following the publication of the announcement in the Official Gazette of the Province of Toledo, that is, from October 1, 2026. Once this period has elapsed, the Plenary of the Municipal Corporation will evaluate the candidacies and submit its proposal to the Governing Chamber of the High Court of Justice of Castilla-La Mancha, which will decide on the appointment of the Substitute Justice of the Peace.

The call directly affects the residents of Cobeja who meet the legal requirements and wish to assume a local judicial function, with competencies in civil matters, civil registry, and judicial assistance within the municipality. The position of substitute justice of the peace ensures the continuity of the service when the titular holder cannot perform it, therefore, filling the vacancy is relevant for the ordinary functioning of justice in the town.
