Chillarón del Rey opens the application period to elect its justice of the peace
Por FactBox Admin

The City Council of Chillarón del Rey has approved the public call to select the individuals who will hold the positions of Titular Justice of the Peace and Substitute Justice of the Peace for the municipality. The announcement is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Guadalajara number 191, dated October 7, 2026, within the City Councils section. The deadline for submitting applications is fifteen business days starting from the day following the publication of the announcement.
The call stems from a Mayoral Resolution of the City Council of Chillarón del Rey, signed by the mayor-president Leonor Sola Millano in the town on October 1, 2026. The text recalls that the election of justices of the peace is governed by the Organic Law of the Judiciary and by Regulation 3/1995, of June 7, on Justices of the Peace, the regulation that establishes the requirements for applicants and the appointment procedure.
Requirements: Spanish nationality and legal age, no law degree required
Applicants must meet the following conditions:
- Possess Spanish nationality.
- Be of legal age.
- Not be subject to any of the causes of incapacity established in the applicable legislation.
- Not be subject to the incompatibilities and prohibitions regulated in articles 389 to 397 of the Organic Law of the Judiciary and in article 14 of Regulation 3/1995, of June 7, on Justices of the Peace.
The announcement specifies that it will not be necessary to hold a law degree, meaning that any resident who meets the requirements may apply for the position.
How and where to submit the application
Applications must be submitted using the form provided by the City Council of Chillarón del Rey, which is also available to interested parties on the municipal Electronic Office. The enabled channels are:
- The General Registry of the City Council of Chillarón del Rey.
- The Electronic Office of the City Council of Chillarón del Rey.
- Any of the means provided for in article 16.4 of Law 39/2015, of October 1, on the Common Administrative Procedure of Public Administrations.
From the Plenary to the High Court of Justice
Once the submission period has ended, the applications will be examined and forwarded to the Plenary of the City Council of Chillarón del Rey, which is responsible for electing the Titular Justice of the Peace and the Substitute Justice of the Peace. The agreement must be adopted with the favorable vote of an absolute majority of the legal number of members of the Corporation.
Subsequently, the certification of the agreement will be sent to the High Court of Justice of Castilla-La Mancha for the purpose of continuing the appointment process. The document includes a verification code for validation on the gazette’s electronic office.
A procedure repeated across the province
The call for applications in Chillarón del Rey joins other similar ones published in the same provincial bulletin in recent weeks. The Alique City Council approved its process via Mayoral Resolution No. 2026-0015, dated September 29, 2026, published in B.O.P. number 189, dated October 5, and the Renera City Council did the same with a call appearing in B.O.P. number 179, dated September 21, 2026.
The cycle is completed with the effective appointments: the High Court of Justice of Castilla-La Mancha published on September 9, 2026, in B.O.P. number 172, the agreement of its Governing Chamber dated September 4, by which justices of the peace were appointed for municipalities such as Sayatón, Valdeavellano, Barriopedro, and Puebla de Beleña.
The figure of the justice of the peace is the first judicial instance in municipalities where there is no court of first instance and instruction, and assumes functions of conciliation and civil registry, among others. For Chillarón del Rey, the call opens the door for a resident without formal legal training to access a position that strengthens the administration of justice in rural areas, within a context of staggered renewal of these positions throughout the province of Guadalajara.
