Cee extends the hours for the finale of the Xunqueira festival

The Cee City Council has authorized that the festival Lanzamento dos Fogos Artificiais das Festas da Xunqueira 2026, scheduled for August 21, may end at 06:00 hours the following day, and has extended by two hours the closing time of catering and leisure establishments in the parish. The decision was made by the mayor, Margarita Lamela Louzán, through a resolution published in the Official Gazette of the Province of A Coruña on August 26, 2026, with reference 2026/5562.

The measure responds to the request submitted on August 19, 2026 (registration no. 202699900001687) by Verónica Bonilla Ruso, representing the Asociación Comisión de Festas da Xunqueira de Cee, the organizer of the celebration, who requested to extend the end of the party until six in the morning.

Regulatory Framework

The extension is based on Law 10/2017, of December 27, on public spectacles and recreational activities of Galicia, which grants city councils the power to authorize extensions to the general schedule. The implementation is provided by the Order of the First Vice-Presidency of the Ministry of Presidency, Justice and Tourism of October 23, 2020, which allows city councils to extend schedules during popular festivals and parties, provided that acoustic pollution regulations are respected.

The maximum number of extendable days in 2026 within the municipal district was fixed by Mayoral Resolution no. 1020/2025, of December 10, 2025, which refers to a subsequent resolution to specify the dates. The extension cannot, in any case, exceed 2 hours over the general closing times.

Scope of the Authorization

The resolution, which processes decree file 2026/G003/000879 (file no. 2026/U029/000045), establishes the following effects for the night of August 21, 2026:

• The festival Lanzamento dos Fogos Artificiais das Festas da Xunqueira 2026 may end at 06:00 hours the following day.
• The closing time for catering establishments is extended by 2 hours (heading III.2.5 of the Order of October 23, 2020).
• The closing time for leisure and entertainment establishments is extended by 2 hours (heading III.2.7 of the same order).
• The extension affects establishments located in the parish of Cee.

The benefiting premises must hold the corresponding enabling title (license or prior communication with all required documentation) for the exercise of their activity.

Relevance for the Municipality

The City Council justifies the measure by the desire to support the activity of municipal associations and the local hospitality sector, making it compatible with acoustic pollution regulations, the rights of third parties, and the functioning of public services. The resolution, signed on May 20, 2026, by the mayor and the secretary Rocío Hermida Cancela, will be notified to the interested parties and reported to the Plenary of the Corporation at the first ordinary session.

For the residents and hospitality business owners of Cee, the extension means a longer night of celebration in one of the municipality’s most traditional festivities, with a direct impact on local catering and leisure during the Festas da Xunqueira.
