Catalonia opens grants to capture wild boars and sell their meat

The Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food (DARPA) has approved the call for de minimis aid to promote the capture of wild boar and the marketing of its meat, with a total allocation of 370,000 euros. Resolution ARP/3192/2026, dated September 2, signed by Minister Òscar Ordeig i Molist, is published in the Official Gazette of the Generalitat de Catalunya (DOGC) no. 9750, dated September 14, 2026, with the official reference CVE-DOGC-A-26252053-2026.

The call develops the regulatory bases approved by Order ARP/142/2026, dated July 27 (DOGC no. 9719, of 30.7.2026), which replace the previous ones from Order ACC/125/2024. The objective is to reduce the abundance of wild boar in the environment and to prevent and combat pathologies that can affect livestock species and people, in a context of wildlife overpopulation aggravated by the African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreak declared by Resolution ARP/4435/2025, dated November 29.

Beneficiaries and aid lines

Those eligible for the aid are holders of hunting rights under a special regime who have the status of a company and holders or managing entities of game meat logistics points (PLCC). The granting is carried out under a non-competitive regime, without comparing applications, and the aid is granted according to available funds.

The allocation of 370,000 euros is distributed among four lines:

• Line 1.2. Capture of wild boar: 150,000 euros.
• Line 2.1. Transport of captured wild boar: 40,000 euros.
• Line 2.2. Reception and conditioning of wild boar at PLCCs: 138,000 euros.
• Line 2.3. Management of ABP (Animal By-Products) waste: 42,000 euros.

Amounts per boar and limits

The amount per beneficiary varies according to the line and the zone:

• Capture: 70 euros per boar captured in areas affected by ASF restrictions after the entry into force of Resolution ARP/4435/2025; 35 euros per boar captured before this date in the same areas; and 35 euros per boar outside the restricted areas, with a minimum of 40 captures. Maximum of 20,000 euros per beneficiary.
• Transport: 5 euros per boar transported from the hunting point to the PLCC or the game meat handling establishment (EMCC), with a minimum of 40 specimens and a maximum of 20,000 euros.
• Reception at PLCCs: 10 euros per boar entering the logistics point, with a maximum of 80,000 euros per beneficiary.
• ABP waste: up to 75% of the justified cost of collection, transport, and disposal, with a maximum of 30,000 euros per PLCC.

The total amount of de minimis aid that a company can receive cannot exceed 300,000 euros over a three-year period. If the allocation is not sufficient to meet all applications, a pro-rata distribution among beneficiaries will be carried out.

Deadlines and processing

Applications must be submitted electronically within a period of fifteen days starting from the day after the publication of the resolution in the DOGC. The instructing body is the Sub-directorate General of Game Fauna, Hunting and Continental Fishing, and the granting resolution corresponds to the head of the Directorate General of Forests and Environmental Management, who must resolve within a maximum period of six months.

Eligible activities must be carried out between April 1, 2025, and March 31, 2026, with an extension until May 31, 2026, for captures in areas affected by ASF restrictions. Justification is made with the same application and supporting documentation, which includes reception certificates, lists of specimens with seal numbers and, for PLCCs, the certificate of collaboration in the DARPA wildlife health surveillance plan.

Impact on the sector

The call comes at a critical moment for the Catalan hunting and livestock sector, pressured by the expansion of wild boar populations and the damage they cause to crops, as well as the health threat of African swine fever. By incentivizing both capture and the placement of meat into the commercial circuit, the Generalitat seeks to turn a wildlife management problem into an economic opportunity for hunters, owners of hunting grounds, and managers of game meat logistics points.
