The City Council of Castellón de la Plana has approved the guidelines to fill, as a permanent position through an open call and a competitive examination process (concurso-oposición), one vacancy for a senior technician in cultural projects, included in the 2026 public employment offer. The call is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Castellón, number 100, dated August 20, 2026, with reference 03740-2026-U.

The agreement was adopted by the Local Government Board in an ordinary session held on July 9, 2026. The position, classified in group/subgroup A1, belongs to the Special Administration scale, special services subscale, special assignments class, and superior category, and is currently vacant within the council’s civil servant staff.

Position Profile and Functions

The selected person will assume the comprehensive direction and management of the municipal museum sites integrated into the Museu de la Ciutat de Castelló and the Planetarium, as well as those newly created, coordinating all activities from the conservation of funds to the organization of exhibitions and events. Their duties include:

  • Developing, applying, and monitoring the Municipal Museum Plan.
  • Managing collections and heritage, including acquisitions, loans, and donations.
  • Programming temporary and permanent exhibitions, historical itineraries, workshops, and educational activities.
  • Designing, organizing, and evaluating new cultural projects and securing public and private funding.
  • Coordinating multidisciplinary teams and providing technical advice on cultural matters.

Requirements and Selection Process

To participate, it is necessary to hold a degree or bachelor’s degree in History, Art History, Anthropology, Humanities (with a curricular track in Heritage Management), or Fine Arts, in addition to the general requirements for access to public employment. Applications must be submitted within ten business days starting from the day following the publication of the announcement in the Official State Gazette, using the self-assessment form available on the municipal website, with a payment of 21 euros for examination fees.

The process consists of an examination phase with three eliminatory exercises and a merit-based phase:

  • First exercise: a multiple-choice questionnaire of 50 questions, with a maximum of 75 minutes.
  • Second exercise: written development of two topics from the specific part of the syllabus, in a maximum of three hours.
  • Third exercise: resolution of two practical cases in three hours.
  • Merit phase: evaluation of merits up to a maximum of 40 points, based on seniority, qualifications, training, and language proficiency.

Job Bank and Internships

Those who pass at least one exercise of the competitive examination will join a job bank to fill cultural management technician positions, ordered according to the score obtained. The proposed person will be appointed as a trainee civil servant for a period of two months, under the tutelage of a City Council official, at the end of which their adaptation to the position will be assessed.

The syllabus, included in Annex I of the rules, covers everything from the Constitution and local government to museology, collection management, heritage conservation, and the specific operation of the Castellón de la Plana Planetarium. The call for applications may be challenged in accordance with Law 39/2015, of October 1, on the Common Administrative Procedure.

The call represents a significant opportunity for qualified public employment in the cultural field, as it entrusts a single senior technician with the management of the city’s main museum and scientific facilities, at a time when the council is promoting the modernization and dissemination of its heritage.
