Por FactBox Admin

The General Directorate of Environment and Climate Change of the Government of Cantabria has proposed granting 185,975.33 euros to nine coastal local entities for the cleaning of rural beaches during the 2026 financial year. The provisional resolution proposal, signed on September 29, 2026, by the general director Alberto Quijano Alonso, is published in the Official Gazette of Cantabria (BOC) No. 192, dated October 6, 2026, with the reference CVE-2026-7752. Interested parties have ten business days to submit allegations or reformulate their application.
Regulatory framework and processing
The call is based on Order MED/20/2021, of August 31, which establishes the regulatory bases for aid destined for coastal local entities of Cantabria for the cleaning of rural beaches, published in the Official Gazette of Cantabria No. 174, dated September 8, 2021. The call for the 2026 annual period was approved by resolution on June 16, 2026, by the Councilor for Development, Housing, Territorial Planning and Environment, registered in the National Grants Database with the identifier 913436 and whose extract was published in the BOC No. 119, dated June 23, 2026.
The procedure is governed by Cantabria Law 10/2006, of July 17, on Cantabria Grants; Law 38/2003, of November 17, General Grants Law, and its regulation, approved by Royal Decree 887/2006, of July 21; Law 39/2015 and Law 40/2015, both of October 1. Once the evaluation process is completed and based on the report from the Evaluation Committee, the instructing body formulates the provisional proposal.

Annex I lists the applications by priority, in accordance with Article 4 of Order MED/20/2021. The nine proposed entities, with their file number and amount, are:

Beaches in protected areas and blue flag
A good portion of the included sandy beaches are located within Natura 2000 network sites and natural parks. The Oyambre Natural Park and SCI ES1300003 protect the beaches of San Vicente de la Barquera and Valdáliga; the Santoña, Victoria and Joyel Marshes (SPA ES0000143, SCI ES1300007 and ES1300008) host Helgueras; and the Liencres Dunes and Costa Quebrada Natural Park (SCI ES1300004) encompasses Canallave, Valdearenas, Usgo, and Los Caballos.
Three sandy beaches hold a blue flag in 2026: Merón, Helgueras, and Tagle. The file for Bareyo, featuring Antuerta beach, has the smallest area and the lowest amount on the list.
Allegations and deadlines
The proposal is published so that interested parties may, within ten business days from the day following its publication, submit any allegations they deem appropriate, in accordance with Article 82 of Law 39/2015, or reformulate their request to adjust the commitments and conditions to the grantable subsidy. The reformulation, provided for in Article 27 of Cantabria Law 10/2006, must respect the object, conditions, and purpose of the subsidy, as well as the established evaluation criteria.
Impact on the coastline
The proposal distributes nearly 186,000 euros among nine municipalities of the Cantabrian coast and consolidates an annual program that finances screening, waste collection, and the maintenance of sandy beaches, many of which are in protected areas and subject to intensive tourist use. The final resolution will come after the allegations process, so the amounts may still vary.
