Cantabria announces two training grants at the Cantabrian Institute of Statistics

Por FactBox Admin

The Government of Cantabria has opened the call for two practical training grants at the Cantabrian Institute of Statistics (ICANE), aimed at recent university graduates. The call is formalized through Order HAC/10/2026, dated August 27, signed by the Councilor for Economy, Finance, Regional Funding, and European Funds, Luis Ángel Agüeros Sánchez, and published in the Official Gazette of Cantabria number 169, dated September 2, 2026.

The grants are awarded on a competitive basis and seek to complement the academic training of young graduates with practical knowledge applied to statistical research in areas such as economics and demography, under the tutelage of ICANE’s technical staff.

Two positions in two ICANE sections

The call provides for one grant for each of the two sections of ICANE’s Economic and Socio-demographic Statistics Service:

  • Economic Statistics: for graduates with a university degree in Economics, Business Administration and Management, Statistical Sciences and Techniques, or equivalents.
  • Socio-demographic Statistics: for graduates in Geography, Sociology, Statistical Sciences and Techniques, or equivalents.

In both cases, it is required to have completed the degree in the 2021/2022 academic year or later, to be a Spanish national or a national of a European Union member state, and to be registered as a resident in any of the municipalities of Cantabria.

Amount, duration, and funding

The maximum total amount of the call amounts to 20,880 euros, distributed as 1,600 euros for the 2026 fiscal year and 19,280 euros for 2027, charged to budget application 01.01.931A.483 of the General Budgets of the Autonomous Community.

  • The beneficiary will receive 800 gross euros per month, subject to the corresponding IRPF (income tax) withholdings and Social Security contributions.
  • The duration will be a maximum of one year from the date of joining, which cannot occur before December 1, 2026, with the possibility of an exceptional extension for one additional year.

Selection process and submission

Selection will be carried out in two phases according to the principles of merit and capacity. The first phase evaluates the academic record, the time taken to complete the study plan, specific training, and practical experience, up to a maximum of 6 points; the second consists of a personal interview, up to 4 points, for a maximum of ten candidates. The Selection Committee will be chaired by the Head of the Economic and Socio-demographic Statistics Service, and the final resolution corresponds to the Director of ICANE.

Applications shall be submitted to the ICANE registration office (C/ Hernán Cortés nº 9, 1st floor, 39003 Santander) or at the locations provided for by the regulations, within a period of ten business days from the publication of the summary in the BOC. The call is governed by the general bases of Order HAC/11/2016, of April 14, and is registered in the National Grants Database with the identifier 926930.

An opportunity for young graduates

The call represents a direct path to labor market insertion for recent graduates in economic, sociological, and statistical disciplines, within a public body with full capacity to promote the specialization of statistical personnel. With a monthly remuneration of 800 euros and a duration of up to one renewable year, the grants allow for the acquisition of professional experience in the statistical production of the regional Administration, an added value for those aspiring to enter the labor market in the field of data and applied research.
