Cantabria announces university tuition scholarships for the 2026-2027 academic year

The University of Cantabria has announced the scholarships for the Regional Scholarship Program of the Autonomous Community of Cantabria, intended to finance tuition fees and, where applicable, additional study grants for students enrolled in official undergraduate and official Master’s degree programs during the 2026/2027 academic year. The call is detailed in the Rectoral Resolution (R.R. 1202/26), dated September 7, 2026, published in the Official Gazette of Cantabria number 178, dated September 16, 2026, with reference CVE-2026-7159.

The program is framed within Law 4/2026, of April 28, on the General Budgets of the Autonomous Community of Cantabria for 2026, which, within the Program-Contract assigned to the University of Cantabria, provides a budgetary allocation for the “Regional Scholarship Plan.” The objective, according to the text, is to ensure that no one is excluded from higher education for economic reasons, complementing the general grants from the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports and the Basque Government.

Financing and amount

The total amount of credit allocated to this call amounts to 210,000.00 euros, financed through allocation 07.81.00.0000.422D.489.81 “Regional Scholarship Program” of the 2026 Budget of the University of Cantabria. The credit is expandable in accordance with article 10.1.k) of the Budget Execution Bases, approved by agreement of the Social Council on December 18, 2025.

The scholarship will cover the tuition cost of all credits enrolled for the first time in the 2026/2027 course, according to the public price set for that year. Credits exceeding the minimum necessary to obtain the degree, as well as exemptions and discounts to which the beneficiaries may be entitled, are excluded. If the tuition amount is lower than the budget limit, the Scholarship Selection Committee will distribute the remainder as additional study grants.

Requirements and award criteria

To access the scholarship, applicants must be Spanish or a national of a European Union member state, be enrolled at the University of Cantabria for the 2026/2027 course, and have applied for the general scholarship from the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports or, where applicable, from the Basque Government. The scholarship is incompatible with grants obtained from these institutions.

• Economic requirements: not exceeding the income thresholds for the 2025 fiscal year established in the Resolution of March 23, 2026, of the State Secretariat for Education.
• Academic requirements (Undergraduate): an admission score of 5.00 points in the first year, or having passed 50% of the credits enrolled in subsequent years.
• Academic requirements (Master’s): an average grade of 5.00 points in previous studies, and passing 85% of the credits in the second year of master’s degrees of more than 60 credits.

If applications exceed the budget limit, the award will be ordered from lowest to highest family income. Additional aid includes 200 euros for mobility and transport for students registered in municipalities at risk of depopulation, and the financing of courses at the Language Center of the University of Cantabria (CIUC).

Deadline and submission

Applications shall be submitted electronically through the Virtual Campus of the University of Cantabria, within a period of one month starting from the day following the publication of the call summary in the Official Gazette of Cantabria. Exceptionally, applications may be submitted until December 31, 2026, by those whose family income was reduced in 2026 due to the death or forced retirement of the main provider or other duly justified causes.

The processing of the procedure corresponds to the Management of the University of Cantabria, with the support of the Academic Management Service, and the final resolution will be adopted by the Rector. The proposals for granting and denial will be published on the University’s website, with a ten-day period for appeals.

The call reinforces the policy of equal opportunities in access and permanence in the community’s official studies, ensuring that the economic situation does not condition the academic continuity of thousands of Cantabrian students in the next academic year.
