Cantabria opens the transfer competition for ten teaching bodies
Por FactBox Admin

The Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Universities of the Government of Cantabria has announced the state-level transfer competition for the 2026-2027 academic year for teaching civil servants. The call is formalized through Order EDU/50/2026, dated October 23, published in the Official Gazette of Cantabria number 208, dated October 29, 2026 (reference CVE-2026-8420), and bears the signature of the Minister Sergio Silva Fernández. The period for submitting applications and merits is from November 5 to 26, 2026, both inclusive.
Ten called bodies and legal coverage
The competition is aimed at career civil servants of the bodies of Secondary Education Professors (Catedráticos), Secondary Education Teachers, Technical Vocational Training Teachers (body to be phased out), Specialist Teachers in singular sectors of Vocational Training, Official Language School Professors (Catedráticos), Official Language School Teachers, Music and Performing Arts Teachers, Plastic Arts and Design Teachers, Plastic Arts and Design Workshop Teachers, and Primary School Teachers.
The order is issued in compliance with the sixth additional provision of Organic Law 2/2006, of May 3, on Education, and under the protection of Royal Decree 1364/2010, of October 29, modified by Royal Decree 677/2024, which regulates the state transfer competition. The common procedure is established by Order EFD/1041/2026, of September 30, published in the Official State Gazette number 248, dated October 6, 2026.
The offered vacancies will be those of the organic staff determined as of December 31, 2026, in addition to those resulting from the competition itself, provided that their continuity is planned for in the educational planning. Their provisional and final list will be published at www.educantabria.es, in the section “Teaching Staff - Transfer Competition 2026-2027”.
Electronic application and mandatory or voluntary participation
The application is completed solely electronically via the Ministry’s educational portal, using a username and password, and the application generates a receipt with the date, time, and application number. Each participant must submit a single application for each body, even if they compete for several specialties or for positions in other educational administrations.
- Voluntary participation: active duty personnel with a permanent assignment who, by the end of the 2026-2027 academic year (fixed for the purposes of the scale as August 31, 2027), have accumulated at least two years since taking office; also special services, leaves of absence, and suspension of duties in the provided cases.
- Mandatory participation: teaching staff with provisional assignments in centers dependent on the Ministry and personnel in training selected in the procedures convened by Order EDU/12/2025, of March 27.
- Concurrent applications: groups of up to four people aspiring to obtain a joint assignment in one or several centers in Cantabria.
Scale, preferential rights, and resolution calendar
The assessment of merits is governed by the scale in Annex XII of the order, and positions of special difficulty are listed in Annex XI. Preferential rights to a center and to a town or area are recognized in cases such as the suppression of a position, displacement due to lack of schedule, loss of position, or reinstatement from abroad; the right to a center takes precedence over that of a town.
The subsequent calendar includes:
- Publication of the provisional lists of admitted and excluded candidates and scores, with five business days to correct errors.
- Provisional assignment of destinations, with ten business days for claims and for waivers by those competing voluntarily.
- Final resolution issued by the Director General of Teaching Personnel, with non-waivable assignments and an obligation to report for duty.
- Administrative appeal (recurso de alzada) within one month against the final resolution; against the order itself, a motion for reconsideration (reposición) may be filed within one month or a contentious-administrative appeal within two months.
The order enters into force the day following its publication, that is, October 30, 2026. On the same day of the bulletin, Order EDU/51/2026 (CVE-2026-8421) is published, which convenes the equivalent transfer competition for the Education Inspectorate.
Impact for teaching staff
The call affects thousands of teachers from Cantabria and the rest of Spain, as civil servants from any educational administration may apply and opt for both positions within the community and those from other simultaneous calls. The calendar is tight: those wishing to change their assignment have barely three weeks, between November 5 and 26, to finalize their application, order their center requests, and certify their merits.
