Cangas appoints three new local police officers as career civil servants

The Cangas de Morrazo City Council has given the green light to the appointment of three new officers as career civil servants of the Local Police force, according to Mayoral Decree no. 2026-2240, of October 13, 2026. The resolution was made public in the Official Gazette of the Province of Pontevedra (BOPPO) no. 207, of Tuesday, October 27, 2026, in the Local Administration section, with official reference 2026074977. The three positions correspond to the 2025 public employment offer and resolve the unitary selection process convened by the Xunta de Galicia.

A decree at the end of the selection process

The decree signed by the mayor, Araceli Gestido Rodríguez, in Cangas on October 22, 2026, provides for the three appointments «at the end of the unitary selection process convened by the Xunta de Galicia through the Order of June 26, 2025», under the open access modality and with procedure code PR461B.

The publication is made in compliance with article 62 of the Recast Text of the Law of the Basic Statute of the Public Employee, approved by Legislative Royal Decree 5/2015, of October 30, and article 60 of Law 2/2015, of April 29, of the public employee of Galicia.

The positions are linked to the council’s public employment offer for the 2025 financial year, whose publication in BOPPO no. 108, of June 9, 2025, is listed in the calls of the same offer processed by the municipality.

These two calls affect higher categories of the same special administration scale, such that the council is simultaneously filling base and command positions within the same public offering exercise.

Impact

The appointment of three career officials stabilizes part of the municipality’s security personnel staff and reduces the dependence on interim personnel in the basic scale, while opening the door to the subsequent filling of two command positions. For the residents, the movement translates into an effective reinforcement of the Local Police of Cangas, although the real impact will depend on the pace at which the two inspector calls currently underway are resolved.
