Canary Islands resolves sports travel grants for 2026

The General Directorate of Physical Activity and Sport has issued a final resolution regarding the call for grants intended to cover travel expenses for sporting activities corresponding to the second period of 2026. The resolution, signed on August 7, 2026, by the Director General, María Rojas Estévez, is published in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands number 168, dated August 21, 2026.

The call, carried out by the Order of November 12, 2025, of the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports, has a total economic allocation of 1,297,978 euros, fully financed by funds from the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands. The credit is distributed across three periods based on the dates of the travel, with the second period corresponding to an amount of 600,000 euros.

A second period with 493 applications

The second period covers travel carried out between January 1 and April 30, 2026, for which the application submission period extended from May 4 to May 14. A total of 493 applications were registered, which were examined by the Evaluation Commission constituted by resolution on March 19, 2026.

The grants awarded in this period amount to 675,668.17 euros; therefore, in accordance with the regulatory bases, a correction coefficient of 0.11199 was applied to all applications to adjust the expenditure to the assigned credit. The final resolution ultimately grants 600,000 euros charged to budget application 18.12.336A 480.02.00.

Appeals and exclusions resolved

The resolution examines the appeals submitted by the interested parties and the errors detected ex officio. Among the analyzed files, the following stand out:

• Club Deportivo Correayo: the appeal regarding the “Mann-Filter Zaragoza Marathon 10k” event is dismissed, as it does not appear on the official calendar of the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation.
• Voy Yooo Trail Team, C.D.: the appeal is upheld and the travel to the “Acantilados del Norte SkyRace” is included, as it is part of the 2026 official calendar of the International Skyrunning Federation.
• Club Deportivo Hwarang Tenerife Yero: the appeal is upheld as the ownership of the invoices in the name of the entity has been proven.
• Canarian Badminton Federation: the appeal is dismissed, maintaining the exclusion due to late submission.
• Hugo del Pino López, Helena Negro Ibáñez, Iker Mateos Mendez, and Cinthya Escobar García: exclusions are maintained due to non-compliance with the regulatory bases.

Likewise, the withdrawal of seven files is declared whose beneficiaries did not accept the grant within the deadline, including Eduardo Hernández Montesinos, CD Prakan del Norte, Tsuburaya Sprinters Tenerife, and Club Bádminton Gran-K Top Spin.

Control and justification of the grants

In accordance with the regulatory bases, a random sampling of 5% of the estimated files was carried out, verifying a total of 22 files through the simplified justification account, as the amounts were less than 60,000 euros. The resolution declares the granted subsidies as justified, without prejudice to further checks by the competent control bodies.

Against the resolution, which exhausts the administrative route, a contentious-administrative appeal may be filed before the High Court of Justice of the Canary Islands within two months, or an optional appeal for reversal within one month.
