Canary Islands reopens the deadline for aid to the audiovisual sector

The Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC) publishes this Thursday, 13 August 2026, the correction of errors of the audiovisual sector grant call, which grants a new deadline for submitting applications. The decision is adopted by order of 30 July 2026, signed by the Minister for Universities, Science, Innovation and Culture, Migdalia María Machín Tavío, and is disseminated in issue 162 of the gazette in both the resolutions section and the announcements section.

The corrected call was approved by Order No. 451/2026, of 3 July, of the Department of Universities, Science, Innovation and Culture, and was originally published in BOC No. 146, of 22 July 2026. It allocates €520,000 for financial year 2026, under a competitive award procedure, and its case file has been processed by the Directorate General for Cultural Innovation and Creative Industries.

The projects that may apply for these grants are:

• The development of feature films and television series (fiction, animation or documentary).
• The production of short films.

What the order corrects

The text detects, on its own motion, material errors in provisions 2.16 and 47.6 of the call, both relating to the intensity limit applicable to subsidised projects:

• In provision 2.16, the reference to Article 21 of the implementing provisions of the Film Law and to Article 54 of Regulation (EU) No. 651/2014 is replaced by Regulation (EU) 2023/2831 of the European Commission, of 13 December, on the application of Articles 107 and 108 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union to de minimis aid, which is the applicable provision.
• In provision 47.6, the aid intensity limit is corrected, changing from 50% to 99% of the recognised cost, with the exceptions provided for in current legislation.

The rectification is based on Article 109.2 of Law 39/2015, of 1 October, on the Common Administrative Procedure of the Public Administrations, which allows the correction at any time of material, factual or arithmetical errors in administrative acts.

New deadline of twenty working days

The order grants interested parties a period of twenty working days, counted from the day following its publication in the BOC, to submit applications. Those submitted previously will be taken into account, in accordance with the provisions of the regulatory terms.

The extract of the call, identified in the National Grants Database as BDNS 918697, is published in accordance with Articles 17.3.b) and 20.8.a) of Law 38/2003, of 17 November, General Law on Subsidies, and its full text may be consulted on the BDNS portal.

Relevance for the sector

The correction prevents projects from being rejected or having to repay aid due to applying an incorrect intensity limit, and gives a second chance to production companies that did not manage to submit their application in the first window. With a budget of 520,000 euros, the call reaffirms public support for a strategic sector for the economy and culture of the Canary Islands.
