Canary Islands publishes 7 million in direct grants for the second quarter

The Regional Ministry of Territorial Policy, Territorial Cohesion and Water of the Government of the Canary Islands has made public the list of grants awarded without a competitive process during the second quarter of 2026, for a total amount of 7,046,411.14 euros. The publication is carried out through an announcement from the General Technical Secretariat dated August 28, 2026, recorded in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands number 180, of September 8, 2026.

The list includes eight direct grants distributed among the islands’ city councils and the Insular Water Council of La Palma, with purposes ranging from the channeling of ravines to the digitalization of the water cycle in municipalities with fewer than 20,000 inhabitants.

Legal framework of the publication

The obligation to publicize these grants derives from Article 31.1 of Law 12/2014, of December 26, on transparency and access to public information, which refers to the scope of application of the General Grants Law 38/2003, of November 17. Letter c) of that article requires the quarterly publication in the gazette of the list of grants awarded without competition, indicating the beneficiary, amount, purpose, and the reasons justifying the absence of a public call.

In this case, most of the grants are justified by Article 21.1.b) of Decree 36/2009, exceptionally for reasons of public, social, or economic interest. The largest grant, on the other hand, is supported by letter a) of Article 22.2 of Law 38/2003.

The two major investments

The largest grant corresponds to the City Council of San Cristóbal de la Laguna, which receives 2,000,000.00 euros (grant order 105/2026, of May 12) for the channeling of the Barranco de la Carnicería. This is followed by the Insular Water Council of La Palma, with 2,144,314.99 euros (order 153/2026, of June 16) for the telemetry control project of the general canal LP-I (Barlovento-Fuencaliente) for flow optimization.

Digitalization and supply in small municipalities

Five of the grants are destined for the digitalization of the water cycle in municipalities with fewer than 20,000 inhabitants, all granted on May 19, 2026:

• City Council of La Villa de Agaete: 837,211.30 € (order 113/2026).
• City Council of Artenara: 255,707.93 € (order 114/2026).
• City Council of La Aldea de San Nicolás: 417,165.42 € (order 115/2026).
• City Council of Tejeda: 483,740.42 € (order 116/2026).
• City Council of Valleseco: 352,727.08 € (order 117/2026).

The list is completed by the City Council of Frontera, in El Hierro, with 555,544.00 € (order 118/2026, of May 21) for the execution of the improvement work of the supply network on Merese Street.
