Canary Islands announces 800,000 euro grants for students with ADHD

The Department of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands has announced grants for a maximum amount of 800,000 euros for students with specific educational support needs (NEAE) associated with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), with or without hyperactivity. The call, approved by the Order of July 15, 2026, is published in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands no. 171, dated August 26, 2026.

The measure, processed under a non-competitive concurrence regime for the 2025-2026 academic year, seeks to compensate families who were unable to apply for the scholarships announced by the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports because they did not possess a disability certificate of 25% or higher. The grants are intended to reinforce the educational process of students outside the school context, financing pedagogical and language re-education.

Who can apply

Beneficiaries may be students who meet the following requirements:

• Possess a psychopedagogical report with NEAE for ADHD, issued by the Educational and Psychopedagogical Guidance Teams (EOEP), dated before September 2025 and with a maximum seniority of five school years.
• Not have a recognized disability status of 25% or higher.
• Be enrolled in a public educational center in the Canary Islands during the 2025-2026 academic year in Early Childhood, Primary, Compulsory Secondary, Baccalaureate, or Basic, Intermediate, or Higher Vocational Training Cycles.
• Have received pedagogical and/or language re-education services during the course, provided by a psychopedagogical office, center, or specialist professional.

Amount and payment method

The maximum amount of the grant per beneficiary will be 913 euros, and in no case may it exceed the expenditure actually incurred. If the credit is not sufficient to meet all requests that meet the requirements, the global amount will be prorated among the beneficiaries. Payment will be made via a single bank transfer.

Deadline and processing

Applications shall be submitted within ten business days starting from the day following the publication of the Order in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands, preferably through the computer application of the electronic headquarters of the Government of the Canary Islands. The processing of the procedure corresponds to the General Directorate of Education Planning, Inclusion and Innovation, and the maximum period to resolve and notify is four months from the end of the submission period.

The call, identified in the National Grants Database under number 921310, is part of the grant line incorporated into the Department’s Strategic Grants Plan for the 2024-2026 period by Order No. 1000/2025, dated August 6, 2025. The expenditure is financed through the “NEAE Complementary Scholarships” budget allocation for the 2026 fiscal year.

Relevance of the measure

The call closes a gap detected in the Canarian educational system: students with ADHD without a recognized disability of 25% were excluded from state scholarships despite needing specialized educational support. With this line of aid, the Government of the Canary Islands ensures that these families can afford the pedagogical and language re-education of their children, reinforcing equity and inclusion in the archipelago’s non-university public centers.
