Canarias convoca 750.000 euros en ayudas para importar terneros de engorde

The Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food Sovereignty of the Government of the Canary Islands has announced, for the 2027 campaign, import grants for calves intended for fattening, with a budget of 750,000 euros. The call is published via an extract of the Order of September 17, 2026, in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC) no. 195, dated September 29, 2026, with identification number 930375 in the National Grants Database. Beef cattle farmers will have two application periods, the first of which will be in December 2026.

The measure corresponds to Sub-action III.2.4 “Import aid for calves intended for fattening,” integrated into Action III.2 “Support for the cattle sector” of the Community Support Program for Agricultural Production in the Canary Islands (POSEI). Its purpose is the introduction of calves for fattening in the islands, so that fattening can be carried out under the same conditions as in any territory of the European Union.

The regulatory bases are those approved by the Order of November 28, 2017, published in BOC no. 233, dated December 4, 2017. The extract is disseminated under articles 17.3.b) and 20.8.a) of the General Grants Law 38/2003, of November 17, and the full text of the call can be consulted in the National Grants Database. The order bears the signature of the counselor Alejandro Narvay Quintero Castañeda.

Beneficiaries and object of the aid

  • Beneficiaries: beef cattle farmers who acquire calves outside the Canary Islands for fattening.
  • Requirement: comply with the requirements and admissibility conditions provided for in the third resolution of the call order.
  • Object: introduce calves for fattening in the Canary Islands and allow fattening under conditions equivalent to those of the rest of the European Union.

Amounts: 238 and 280 euros per animal

The grants are financed by the European Agricultural Guarantee Fund (EAGF) and the program’s financial sheet assigns them 750,000 euros. The planned unit amounts are as follows:

  • 238 euros per calf for farms located in Gran Canaria and Tenerife.
  • 280 euros per calf for farms located in the remaining islands.

In the event that the budget allocation or the unit amounts of this sub-action are modified for the 2027 campaign, the provisions of said modification shall prevail.

Two deadlines and electronic processing

Applications shall be submitted by electronic means through the electronic office of the Public Administration of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands, adjusted to the standardized model and accompanied by the documentation provided for in the fifth resolution of the order. The deadlines are:

  • First period: from December 1 to 15, 2026, for calves to be imported between January 1 and May 31, 2027.
  • Second period: from May 1 to 15, 2027, for calves to be imported between June 1 and October 16, 2027.

The call provides certainty to the fattening livestock farmers of the archipelago, who depend on the purchase of animals from outside the islands to maintain their activity. The staggered calendar allows for the planning of imports for the entire year and provides access to island-specific aid that compensates for the higher transport costs in the non-capital islands.
