Canarias authorizes 4.8 MW photovoltaic plant in Arona

The General Directorate of Energy of the Department for Ecological Transition and Energy of the Government of the Canary Islands has authorised the construction of a 4,777 MW photovoltaic plant in the municipality of Arona, on the island of Tenerife. The resolution, signed on 1 July 2026, was published this Monday, 17 August, in the Official Gazette of the Province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, number 98, under reference 246119.

Details of the authorisation

The official notice states that the company Disa Renovables, S.L.U. has obtained the administrative authorisation and, specifically, the declaration of public utility for the photovoltaic plant known as Llano de los Bebederos I, with a capacity of 4,777 MW. The project is located in the municipality of Arona, in the south of the island of Tenerife.

The publication of the notice is carried out in compliance with two regulations:

Article 21 of the Law of 16 December 1954 on compulsory expropriation.
Article 42 of Law 21/2013, of 9 December, on environmental assessment.

The file registered under number ER225921 was resolved by the General Directorate of Energy by means of a Resolution dated 01/07/2026. The notice published in the Official Gazette is signed by Alberto M. Blasco Lorenzo, Head of the Technical Energy Area, exercising the powers delegated by the Director General of Energy through Resolution No. 462/2026, of 20/03/2026.

Context: a milestone in the Canary Islands’ energy transition

The authorisation of Llano de los Bebederos I is part of the Government of the Canary Islands’ commitment to diversifying the archipelago’s energy mix with renewable sources. The island of Tenerife, in particular, has been the focus of multiple solar energy initiatives in recent years, and the southern area —where Arona is located— has one of the highest solar radiation levels in the Canary Islands.

The declaration of public utility of the project implies that the asset subject to expropriation is considered necessary to satisfy a public need, which enables the Administration to proceed with the corresponding actions on the affected land.

Impact for Arona and southern Tenerife

The plant, with nearly 5 MW of power, adds to the renewable energy infrastructure of a tourist municipality such as Arona, which concentrates high electricity consumption during the summer season. The initiative of Disa Renovables, S.L.U. represents a concrete step in the archipelago’s energy transition strategy, with direct effects on the productive and labor fabric of the southern region of Tenerife.
