Camas announces the 1st Sevillanas Dance Competition with 2,000 euros in prizes

The Most Excellent City Council of Camas has approved, by Mayoral resolution, the call for applications for the bases of the I Sevillanas Dance Contest «Camas baila por sevillanas», with a total of €2,000.00 in prizes. The announcement is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Seville number 172, dated Friday, September 4, 2026, as extract no. 220179, with official reference BOP-SE-2026-172005.

The call is processed through the regulated procedure under a competitive bidding regime and is part of the Camas Fair and Patron Saint Festivals 2026. Its objective is to encourage citizen participation and promote the conservation, dissemination, and enhancement of Andalusian cultural traditions through the recognition of the best participating performances.

Participants and categories

Couples consisting of two people, of the same or different sex, may participate, and no person may compete as part of more than one couple. Three categories are established based on age as of the registration deadline:

• Children: participants who have not yet turned 12 (up to 11 years inclusive).
• Youth: participants between 12 and 17 years old (who have not yet turned 18).
• Adults: participants of legal age (from 18 years old onwards).

If the members of a couple belong to different categories, the couple will be placed entirely in the category of the oldest member. In compliance with the principle of competition, a minimum of three couples per category is required; if this is not achieved, the category will be automatically cancelled.

Registration and contest development

Applications must be formalized electronically through the Electronic Office of the Camas City Council, although those who are not required to interact electronically may submit them in person at the General Registry. The registration period will be open from the day following the publication of the extract in the BOP until September 8, 2026.

The contest will be held publicly on September 12, 2026, at 9:30 p.m. on the stage of the Municipal Tent of the Fairgrounds, and all couples must report at 8:45 p.m. to collect their bib numbers. Couples will perform a sevillanas dance of current, flamenco, or traditional style, consisting of four stanzas with their choruses and introductions, and it will be mandatory to attend dressed in typical fair attire, «de faralaes» or «de flamenca».

Jury, prizes, and financing

A technical and independent Evaluation Commission, constituted in accordance with the General Grant Ordinance of Camas, will score each performance out of a maximum of 30 points:

• Beat, rhythm, and technical execution: up to 10 points.
• Expression, style, chemistry, and flamenco flair: up to 10 points.
• Costume, accessories, and couple’s coordination: up to 10 points.

Cash prizes, accompanied by a diploma, are distributed by category:

• Children: 1st €250, 2nd €120, 3rd €80.
• Youth: 1st €350, 2nd €150, 3rd €80.
• Adults: 1st €450, 2nd €200, 3rd €100.
• “Estampa Flamenca” Special Prize: €100 to the best-coordinated couple in attire.
• Local Prize: €120 to the couple from Camas with the highest score who has not previously won a prize.

Funding will be charged to budget item 0000 3380 48015 of the current Municipal Budget, and the jury’s decision shall be final, with the possibility of leaving any prize vacant. The final resolution, which concludes the administrative process, may be appealed for reconsideration within one month or before the Contentious-Administrative Courts of Seville within two months. The announcement was signed in Camas on September 2, 2026, by the Mayor, Víctor Manuel Ávila Muñoz.

The initiative reinforces the role of the sevillana as a cultural identity marker of the municipality and offers residents and visitors an opportunity for active participation in the patron saint festivities, with a financial endowment that recognizes the effort of dancers of all ages.
