Calamonte definitively approves the regulations for its Local Police

The Calamonte City Council has definitively approved the Regulations for the organization, operation, and internal regime of the Local Police Force, a regulation that governs the structure, entry, training, and disciplinary regime of the municipal force. The definitive approval is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Badajoz number 164, dated August 27, 2026, via announcement 3383/2026.

The regulations were initially approved by the Plenary of the Corporation in the session of June 29, 2026, and subjected to public consultation for thirty days, in accordance with articles 49 and 70.2 of Law 7/1985, of April 2, Regulating the Bases of the Local Regime. As no claims or allegations were presented, the initial approval was automatically elevated to definitive, without the need for a new plenary agreement.

A force adapted to a growing municipality

The regulation is based on Organic Law 2/1986, of March 13, on Security Forces and Corps, and on the tenth additional provision of Law 57/2003, of December 16, on Measures for the Modernization of Local Government, which strengthens the Local Police as a community police force and in Judicial Police functions. The text establishes itself as a specific regulation for a municipality “in constant growth and expansion,” which requires a force adapted to social demands and a guarantor of neighborhood coexistence.

The regulation is structured into 10 chapters and 153 articles, plus one repealing provision, one transitional provision, and one final provision. Among its provisions, it designates April 12 as the Local Police Day of Calamonte and establishes that the regulation will enter into force on the day of its definitive publication in the BOP.

Structure, scales, and functions

The force is organized as a single, armed, and civilian body, under the superior authority of the Mayor’s Office, with an Officer/Chief at the head and at least eleven agents. Immediate command is provided by competitive examination through internal promotion.

The scales and categories are adjusted to the framework regulations for local police in Extremadura:

• Superior scale (group A1): Superintendent and Intendant.
• Technical scale (group A2): Inspector and Sub-inspector.
• Basic scale (group C1): Officer and Agent.

Among the functions of the force, highlights include the protection of authorities, the surveillance of municipal buildings, traffic management, the drafting of police reports, acting as administrative police, participation in Judicial Police functions, and collaboration in civil protection and road safety education.

Entry, training, and disciplinary regime

Entry and promotion are governed by Decree 218/2009, of October 9, which approves the framework regulations for local police in Extremadura, and by Law 7/2017, of August 1, on the Coordination of Local Police of Extremadura. Professional training is the responsibility of the Public Security Academy of Extremadura, with selective, improvement, and specialization courses.

The disciplinary regime refers to that established for the Local Police of Extremadura and, supplementarily, to Organic Law 4/2010, of May 20, on the Disciplinary Regime of the National Police Corps. The authority to impose sanctions corresponds to the Mayor’s Office-Presidency, and the procedure is always initiated ex officio.

The regulation, signed by Mayor Dolores María Enrique Jiménez, is available to interested parties on the City Council’s electronic office (calamonte.sedelectronica.es). With its entry into force, Calamonte provides its Local Police with its own regulatory framework that reinforces citizen security and the quality of public service in the municipality.
