Calahorra selects plays for the XII National Amateur Theater Exhibition

The Calahorra City Council has published the guidelines for the call for entries for the XII National Amateur Theater Showcase in the Official Gazette of La Rioja, through which up to four theatrical plays will be selected for the event’s programming. The showcase will be held at the Teatro Ideal in Calahorra between January 16 and February 21, 2027, and the deadline for submitting applications ends on October 16, 2026, at 2:00 PM.

The announcement appears in issue number 177 of the gazette, dated September 15, 2026, within section III (Other provisions and acts), with official reference BOR-A-20260915-III–3505, and is signed by the mayor-president, Mónica M. Arceiz Martínez, in Calahorra on September 10, 2026.

Purpose and Participants

The purpose of the call is to regulate the selection, through artistic and technical evaluation, of a maximum of four theatrical plays that will make up the programming of the 12th edition of the showcase. The guidelines were approved by the Local Government Board on September 7, 2026.

Legally constituted non-profit associations and cultural entities whose purpose includes the promotion or practice of amateur theater may apply. Additionally, they must have the capacity to contract with the public sector and issue the corresponding invoice.

Amount and Economic Conditions

The maximum economic forecast for the four contracts amounts to 4,800 euros, taxes included. The price will be paid after the performance, subject to the approval of the municipal manager and the presentation of the invoice in the legally required form.

• The invoice must identify the play, the date of the performance, and the contractual file.
• Legally applicable tax withholdings will be made, where appropriate.
• No amount will be paid for the mere selection of the proposal nor for preparatory expenses prior to the award of the contract.

Submission of Applications

Applications shall be submitted at the OAC offices, from 8:00 AM to 1:30 PM, or by any of the means established in Article 16 of Law 39/2015 on Common Administrative Procedure. They may also be sent by certified mail to the Centro Cultural Deán Palacios, calle Rasillo San Francisco, 8, 26500 Calahorra, provided that the certification is within the registration date.

The required documentation is that provided for in Article 6 of the regulatory guidelines, and the development conditions are detailed in Articles 8 to 12 of the same. The full text of the call will be available on the Calahorra City Council website.

Regulatory Framework

The selection procedure shall be governed by these terms and, for matters not provided herein, by Law 39/2015, of October 1, on the Common Administrative Procedure, and Law 40/2015, of October 1, on the Legal Regime of the Public Sector. The preparation and awarding of subsequent contracts shall be governed by Law 9/2017, of November 8, on Public Sector Contracts, particularly by articles 25.1.a).1º, 26.2, 63.4, 99, and 118, as well as by the budget execution terms and other applicable budgetary and control regulations.

The call for applications represents an opportunity for amateur theater companies from the region and the country as a whole, who will be able to showcase their work on a consolidated stage such as the Teatro Ideal in Calahorra. With a budget of 4,800 euros and a timeframe of barely one month, the exhibition reinforces the municipality’s role as a benchmark for non-professional theater in La Rioja.
