Calañas renames Paseo Jacinto Benavente as El Real de la Coronación

Por FactBox Admin

The Calañas City Council has approved the agreement by which Paseo Jacinto Benavente is renamed Paseo El Real de la Coronación. The decision, which is symbolic and of local interest, is recorded in the summary of the Official Gazette of the Province of Huelva number 164, corresponding to Wednesday, August 26, 2026.

The announcement appears in the Local Administration section of the gazette, within the block of agreements of the Calañas City Council, and is added to two other municipal approvals published in the same issue: the final modification of the Personnel Staffing for the 2026 fiscal year and the Municipal Regulation governing the municipal administrative registry of planning instruments, urban agreements, and cataloged assets and spaces.

A name change with symbolic weight

The replacement of the name of the playwright Jacinto Benavente with El Real de la Coronación responds to a plenary decision of the Calañas council, which seeks to provide this thoroughfare with a designation linked to local identity and history. The agreement is processed as a change of public road designation, a common procedure in municipalities to update the street directory.

The publication in the official gazette provides publicity and effectiveness to the agreement, such that the new name is formally incorporated into the municipal nomenclator. The document is associated with the Secure Verification Code BOPxs261640LLSyXOUDW4NSow=, which allows its authenticity to be verified on the electronic headquarters of the Provincial Council of Huelva.

Other approvals from the same plenary session

Along with the change of designation, the same issue of the gazette includes other decisions by the Calañas City Council:

  • Final approval of the modification of the Personnel Staffing for the 2026 fiscal year.
  • Final approval of the Municipal Regulation governing the municipal administrative registry of planning instruments, urban agreements, and cataloged assets and spaces.

A renewing street directory

With this decision, Calañas joins the municipalities that periodically review the toponymy of their roads to reflect the values and references of the community. The change of designation does not alter the layout or use of the road, but it does update the signage and municipal records, a process that affects official documentation, postal services, and local cartography.

The measure will have a direct impact on residents and the administrative activity of the municipality, which must update the street directory data in the coming months. The publication in the Official Gazette of the Province of Huelva guarantees the legal certainty of the change and its public knowledge.
