Cabildo de Gran Canaria announces two vacancies for forestry technical engineer

The Insular Council of Gran Canaria has approved the specific bases of the call, via the open entry system, to fill two positions for Forestry Technical Engineer with a helitransported specialty, included in the 2024 Public Employment Offer. The decision was adopted through resolution number CGC/2026/9682, dated August 31, 2026, by the Councilor for Public Administration and Transparency, and is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Las Palmas number 107, dated September 7, 2026, page 15608.
The call, processed by the Human Resources Management Service of the Department of Public Administration and Transparency, is aimed at civil servant personnel within the Council’s staff and is part of the process of stabilization and reinforcement of the island’s emergency services. The access system is competition-examination (concurso-oposición), and the positions correspond to the class of Technician, Forestry Technical Engineer, with a technical profile specialized in forest fire extinction.
Requirements and Qualifications
To participate in the selection process, it is required to hold a degree in Forestry Technical Engineering or a Degree that enables the practice of this profession, in accordance with Order CIN/324/2009. Additionally, mandatory training in Technical Management of Helitransported Brigades or equivalent, of at least 50 hours, accredited by official bodies, as well as a type B driver’s license, is required.
- Qualification: Forestry Technical Engineering or enabling Degree (Order CIN/324/2009).
- Training: Technical Management of Helitransported Brigades or equivalent, minimum 50 hours.
- Other requirement: type B driver’s license.
- Access system: competition-examination via open entry.
Job Functions
Under the supervision of the Emergency Section Head, the selected individuals will perform support functions for the management and planning of prevention and extinction campaigns for forest fires and urban-forest interface fires. Among their duties, the support for the management of Helitransported Brigades stands out, both during the extinction campaign and in preventive work, as well as participation as a Forest Fire Extinction and/or Operations Technician.
- Support for the management of Helitransported Brigades and the Artenara Helitransported Base.
- Participation in the management of the helicopter charter contract.
- Collaboration in emergencies according to the Civil Protection plans (PLATECA, PEIN, PEFMA, PEVOLCA, PESICAN).
- Preparation of annual forest fire statistics and reports on preventive work.
Selection Process and Deadlines
The opposition phase will consist of three eliminatory exercises: two theoretical and one practical, with a weighting of 40% for the theoretical part and 60% for the practical part. The competition phase, which is non-eliminatory, will assess professional experience (50%), official qualifications (20%), training courses (20%), and other merits (10%).
Applications must be submitted within twenty business days starting from the day following the publication of the announcement in the Official State Gazette, through the Cabildo’s electronic office, the General Registry, or post offices. Examination fees amount to 21 euros for the ordinary rate, with reductions for large families, persons with disabilities, and job seekers.
