Cáceres opens the Guardia Civil street for public consultation
Por FactBox Admin

The Cáceres City Council has initiated proceedings to name the access road to the city’s Civil Guard Command facilities as Calle de la Guardia Civil and to modify the official address of the barracks. The agreement is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Cáceres No. 0208, dated October 29, 2026, Section I - Local Administration (official reference: CVE: BOP-2026-5056). The announcement subjects the proposal to public consultation for one month, during which any interested party may appear in the proceedings.
A Mayoral resolution with three agreements
The Mayoral-Presidency of the Most Excellent City Council of Cáceres issued Resolution No. 2026008067 on October 20, 2026, which structures the initiative into three points:
- To initiate proceedings for the granting of an honor consisting of naming the access road to the Civil Guard Command, from the Glorieta 8 de Marzo “Día de la Mujer Trabajadora”, as CALLE DE LA GUARDIA CIVIL.
- To modify the address of the barracks, which will become calle de la Guardia Civil, 1, instead of the current Avenida de la Universidad, 50.
- To appoint Ms. Elena Calle Mayoral, administrative assistant of the General Administration, as the secretary of the proceedings.
The announcement appears signed in Cáceres on October 23, 2026, by Juan Miguel González Palacios, Secretary General of the corporation, and spans pages 24559 and 24560 of the provincial gazette.
Ordinary procedure for honors and distinctions
The proposal is not new: it stems from the agreement adopted by the Local Government Board in an ordinary session on July 18, 2025, in which the Head of the Culture Section was already ordered to carry out the administrative processing of the file regarding the naming of the access road to the Command. The proceedings also have a favorable report from the Informative Commission of Culture, Education, Festivities, and Trade, issued in an ordinary session on September 24, 2026.
The procedure is based on Articles 20 and following of the Regulations on Honors and Distinctions of the Most Excellent City Council of Cáceres, published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Cáceres No. 221, dated November 16, 2018. This regulation requires the opening of a public exhibition period before resolving the granting of the honor.
One month to appeal and provide merits
The enabled period is one month from the publication of the announcement. During this period, interested parties may:
- Appear in the proceedings to record data, news, or judgments they consider appropriate in relation to the proposal.
- Provide supporting documentation for the alleged merits.
- Contact the interested persons or entities, to whom the City Council will communicate the start of the proceedings.
The proposal affects a single urban section: the roadway linking the Glorieta 8 de Marzo “Día de la Mujer Trabajadora” with the Command headquarters. No changes, however, are announced regarding the numbering of the rest of Avenida de la Universidad.
The scope of the change
The modification has practical effects beyond the street map: it alters the reference postal address of the Civil Guard Command of Cáceres, which will now be identified as number 1 of the new street, and necessitates updating the signage and municipal roadway records. The published text does not detail the cost of the signage nor the installation schedule for the plaques, details that must be finalized once the procedure is closed.
The announcement concludes a process initiated more than a year ago in the Local Government Board and culminated with the resolution of the Mayor’s Office-Presidency on October 20. For the residents and for the “Benemérita” itself, the change represents a new official reference in the city’s nomenclator, with the subsequent communication process for those listed as interested parties. The file remains open for consultation and allegations for one month from its publication in the provincial bulletin.
