Burgos opens the second 2026 call for taxi licenses

The Burgos City Council, through the Municipalized Mobility and Transport Service, has approved the second call of 2026 for the aptitude tests to obtain the municipal driving permit for vehicles assigned to the urban transport service in light vehicles equipped with a taximeter. The decision was adopted by the service’s Board of Directors in an ordinary session held on July 20, 2026, and the announcement is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Burgos number 159, dated August 24, 2026 (reference BopBur-2026-03548).

Along with the call, the regulatory bases governing the selection process are approved, aimed at those aspiring to work as taxi drivers in the Burgos capital. The municipal permit constitutes the enabling title to carry out the discretionary transport of passengers on an exclusively urban basis.

Requirements and submission of applications

To participate in the tests, applicants must meet a series of conditions that can be proven at the time the application deadline ends:

• Hold a valid class B driving license or equivalent, with a minimum seniority of one year and at least eight points.
• Present criminal and sexual offense certificates with no record of common crimes.
• Prove that they do not suffer from any infectious-contagious disease or physical impediment that hinders the exercise of the profession.
• Know and speak the Spanish language correctly.
• Reside in Spain.

Applications, adjusted to the model in Annex I, must be addressed to the mayor-president of the City Council and submitted within fifteen calendar days from the day following the publication in the gazette, through the municipal General Registry or in accordance with Article 16 of Law 39/2015.

Tests and examination fees

Examination fees are set at 20.00 euros, payable via self-assessment through the Virtual Tax Office or at the Taxpayer Service Office (BAC), located at Plaza Mayor number 1. Failure to pay within the deadline will result in the exclusion of the applicant, without the possibility of rectification.

The process consists of a theoretical test and a practical test:

• Theoretical test: 40 questions on streets, squares, and monuments of Burgos (minimum 20 points); 5 questions on itineraries (minimum 5 points); and 5 questions on the Municipal Regulations of the Urban Taxi Service and transport regulations (minimum 5 points).
• Practical test: error-free driving of a taxi on two itineraries designated by the tribunal, reserved for those who pass the theory test and to be completed within a maximum period of one month.

The tribunal will be composed of a president, two members—one of whom will be the secretary—and their respective alternates, and may include specialist advisors.

Granting and expiration of the permit

After passing the tests, successful candidates will have five calendar days to submit the supporting documentation (ID, medical certificate, criminal record check, Class B license, passport-sized photograph, and points certificate from the DGT). The tribunal will then submit the proposal to the competent municipal body for the granting of the permit.

The municipal driving permit shall expire after five years if the interested party does not engage in the activity of driving an auto-taxi. An administrative appeal may be filed against the call and its terms within two months or, optionally, a request for reversal within one month.

The call, signed on August 12, 2026, by the Secretary of the Council, Pilar López García, and the delegated councilor, Juan Manuel Manso Villalaín, opens a new avenue to incorporate drivers into the capital’s taxi service, in a sector that requires detailed knowledge of the street map and municipal mobility regulations.
