Bolaños convoca las plazas de juez de paz titular y sustituto

The City Council of Bolaños de Calatrava has approved the public call to fill the vacancies for the titular and substitute Justice of the Peace of the municipality, with a deadline for submitting applications of twenty business days from the day following the publication of the edict in the Official Gazette of the Province of Ciudad Real. The announcement, signed by the mayor-president Miguel Ángel Valverde Menchero on October 30, 2026, is published in BOP no. 213, of November 4, 2026, under announcement number 3541.

The origin: the end of the current judges’ mandates

The procedure begins with the communication sent to the Council dated October 9, 2026, notifying the end of the period for which the titular justice of the peace and the substitute were appointed, and requesting the City Council to initiate the appointment procedure for both positions, with the proposal to be submitted to the Presidency of the High Court of Justice of Castilla-La Mancha.

The call complies with articles 101 and 102 of Organic Law 6/1985, of July 1, of the Judiciary, and articles 4 and following of Regulation 3/1995, of June 7, of the Justices of the Peace, approved by the General Council of the Judiciary. On the same day, November 4, other municipalities in the province activated equivalent processes, such as the City Council of Llanos del Caudillo, which, by decree of October 30, 2026, signed by its mayor, Andrés Arroyo Valverde, calls for the position of titular justice of the peace with a thirty-day deadline.

Requirements and documentation for applicants

Residents of the municipality who meet the legally established conditions and do not incur any cause of incompatibility may apply for the position. The application form attached to the edict lists the following requirements:

  • Possess Spanish nationality and be of legal age.
  • Be in full exercise of civil rights.
  • Be a resident of the town, seat of the Justice of the Peace Court, unless authorized by the Governing Chamber of the High Court of Justice (article 15 of Regulation 3/1995).
  • Not be subject to the causes of incapacity provided for in article 389 of the Organic Law of the Judiciary.
  • Not be physically or mentally impeded from performing judicial functions.
  • Not have been convicted of an intentional crime or, where applicable, have obtained rehabilitation, and not be prosecuted or indicted for an intentional crime.

A certified photocopy of the DNI (National ID) must be provided along with the application. The Mayor’s Office may request a suitable document to prove these points should any doubts arise.

Deadline, registration, and publicity of the edict

Applications shall be submitted in writing to the Entry Registry of the City Council, located at Plaza de España, nº 1, or through the procedure provided for in Article 16.4 of Law 39/2015, of October 1, on the Common Administrative Procedure of Public Administrations.

The call for applications will be disseminated by edict in the Official Gazette of the Province of Ciudad Real, on the City Council’s notice board, on the notice board of the Court of First Instance and Instruction of Almagro, and on the notice board of the local Justice of the Peace Court. The text will also be available on the municipal electronic office, https://www.sede.bolanosdecalatrava.es.

Election by the Plenary and vacancy scenarios

Applications submitted within the deadline will be submitted to the Plenary of the City Council at the first session held, which will choose the suitable person among the interested parties with an absolute majority quorum. In the event that no applicants apply, the Plenary may choose freely, subject to the same procedural requirements.

The filling of these two positions is decisive for the day-to-day operations of the Justice of the Peace Court, the first instance for many citizen procedures, and requires agility from the Council: the twenty-business-day deadline and the election in the first available plenary set the calendar so that Bolaños de Calatrava is not left without a titular or substitute justice of the peace once the mandates of the previous ones have expired.
