Blanes reviews municipal drinking water and sewerage rates
Por FactBox Admin

Blanes begins the review of public prices for drinking water supply and sewerage services. The Plenary of the Blanes City Council, at its ordinary session of 30 July 2026, adopted two agreements for the initial approval of fiscal ordinances establishing new rates for these essential services. The notice was published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Girona, number 157, on 17 August 2026, and citizens have 30 working days to submit claims or suggestions.
The legal framework supporting the municipal action is Articles 49 and 70.2 of Law 7/1985, of 2 April, regulating the bases of local government. The Blanes City Council, one of the most populated coastal capitals in the Selva region, operates in a context of periodic review of public rates to ensure the economic sustainability of urban services.
The two approved ordinances
The Plenary adopted two separate agreements, each referring to a specific service:
- Agreement 2026000075: Initially approve the fiscal ordinance regulating the non-tax public asset provision in the form of rates for the provision of the drinking water supply service and ancillary services within the municipal area of Blanes, as set out in file number 2025/00019843J.
- Agreement 2026000076: Initially approve the fiscal ordinance regulating the non-tax public asset provision in the form of rates for the provision of the sewerage network maintenance service, as set out in file number 2025/00019977D.
Both agreements were electronically signed by Jordi Hernández Martínez, Mayor of Blanes, on 7 August 2026, and can be verified using the secure verification code CSV 16340740675463510671 through the municipal website portal.
Public information procedure
The notice establishes that the ordinances are subject to public information and a hearing for interested parties for a period of 30 working days, counted from the day following publication in the BOP of Girona. The aim is to collect claims and suggestions from citizens, which will be resolved by the Municipal Corporation.
Citizens may submit their contributions through various channels:
- Official Gazette of the Province of Girona (BOP no. 157, 17-08-2026).
- Official Gazette of the Government of Catalonia (DOGC).
- e-Tauler of the Blanes City Council.
- Municipal website portal (www.blanes.cat).
- Municipal electronic headquarters, where the files will be displayed throughout the entire period.
Consequences of the public information phase
If during the open period no claims or suggestions are submitted, the two ordinances will be considered definitively approved without the need for an express agreement by the Plenary, and their publication will proceed directly. This streamlines the procedure and allows the new rates to come into force more quickly.
In the event that allegations are submitted, the municipal council must assess them and, if applicable, modify the text of the ordinances before submitting them again to plenary debate for final approval.
Impact for Blanes residents
The review of drinking water and sewerage rates directly affects all households and establishments in the municipality of Blanes. These services are financed entirely through the rates paid by users, so any variation has a direct impact on the bill received by each household.
The periodic review of these rates allows the City Council to adapt income to the real maintenance costs of the services, ensure the necessary investment in hydraulic and sanitation infrastructure, and comply with current regulations on non-tax public property charges.
