Bilbao Kirolak-Municipal Sports Institute, S.A. has published the list of grants awarded to sports clubs and associations for 2026 in issue number 172 of the Boletín Oficial de Bizkaia, dated September 9, 2026. A total of 831,122.87 euros will be distributed among 63 entities and programs, across two main lines: 199,122.87 euros in line 1 and 632,000 euros in agreements.

The announcement was signed by Marcos Muro Nájera, general manager of Bilbao Kirolak, in Bilbao on September 1, 2026. The publication fulfills the requirement established in Article 7 of the bases regulating the grants charged to the 2026 budget, following the principle of transparency.

The two lines of grants

Line 1 aims to develop the social federative function of sports clubs: specific organizational criteria, composition of the technical team, travel, the presence of women’s promotion, sports practice for people with functional disabilities, and participation programs. There are 63 clubs and associations in this line, with amounts ranging from 181.52 euros (Zetabarri Football Club) to 13,988.45 euros (Club Deportivo La Salle de Bilbao).

The agreements line, on the other hand, includes 13 entities, with amounts ranging from 12,000 euros (Bizkaian Pelota Federation) to 95,000 euros (Club Remo Deusto).

Main agreements

The largest grants via agreements are as follows:

  • Club Remo Deusto: 95,000 euros
  • Club Universitario Bilbao Rugby: 90,000 euros
  • Club Atletismo Santutxu: 85,000 euros
  • Asociación de Clubes de Traineras-ACT: 60,000 euros
  • Bilbao Esperantza Pilota Sports and Cultural Association: 58,000 euros

Additionally, among others, BSR Bilbao (wheelchair basketball), S.D. San Inazio Baseball, the Bizkaian Rural Sports Federation, and the Bilboko Txirrika Rural Sports Club are also supported through agreements.

Payment schedule

Payments will be made in two installments:

  • Line 1: July 10, 2026
  • Agreements: first payment on March 31, 2026, and the second on July 10

The objective of the grants is to support the entire sports structure of Bilbao, from federated sports to rural sports, including wheelchair sports, skating, rowing, and pelota, promoting inclusive and diverse sports practice.

Impact

This publication provides a complete picture of the public financing of Bilbao’s sports movement and recognizes the work of the small and medium-sized clubs as well as the federations that form the basis of municipal sports. The investment of over 831,000 euros demonstrates Bilbao Kirolak’s commitment to sports as a pillar of social well-being and participation, providing clubs with the economic guarantee to plan their programs and technical teams.
