Approval of the renovation project

The Benicarló City Council has given the green light to a sewerage renovation project on C/ Santaeresa, the section between C/ del Segle and C/ Port, an action that directly affects the historic center of the municipality. The resolution was published last Friday, August 15, in the Official Bulletin of the Province of Castellón, issue number 98, with reference 167414.

The agreement was adopted by means of Decree number 2731, dated July 21, 2026, issued by the Councillor Delegate for the Area of Urban Planning and Activities. The action, framed within local administration, is registered under file number 1837171C (014/2026 PM).

Technical and economic details of the project

The execution project has been drafted by the Municipal Technical Engineer, Beatriz Gonzáles Porcar, with a preparation date of July 20, 2026. The total budget for the works amounts to:

  • €47,477.63 (VAT included)
  • €37,507.33 (VAT excluded)

The works fall within municipal competences in matters of urban planning and public facilities, and their objective is the modernization of the sewerage network in one of the most central sections of Benicarló.

Challenge and available appeals

The resolution exhausts the administrative route, which means that interested parties have the following avenues to challenge it:

  • Optional appeal for reconsideration before the Mayor-President of the City Council, within one month from notification.
  • Administrative contentious appeal before a Contentious-Administrative Court based in Castellón, within two months from notification, under Article 8 of Law 29/98, of July 13, regulating the contentious-administrative jurisdiction.

Relevance for residents of the historic center

The sewerage renovation on C/ Santaeresa is an action of direct interest to the residents and businesses of the central area of Benicarló. The street, located between C/ del Segle and C/ Port, forms part of the urban fabric of the old town, where sewerage networks frequently present structural deficiencies due to their age. The approval of the project represents a first step towards improving the basic facilities of this area of the municipality, whose works may begin once the legal challenge periods have ended.
