Benicarló urgently approves the intermodal bus station

The Local Government Board of the Benicarló City Council has unanimously approved, via urgent procedure, the construction project for the “Intermodal Bus Station,” a key infrastructure for mobility in the Baix Maestrat region. The agreement, adopted in ordinary session number 19/2026 held on August 17, 2026, was made public in the Official Gazette of the Province of Castellón number 106, dated September 3, 2026, under reference 03776-2026.

The project, processed under file 1717529H (025/2025 PM), has a total contract execution budget of 1,885,738.63 euros (VAT included). The approval was processed as an urgent matter following a reasoned declaration of urgency, agreed upon unanimously by the attending members, who represent the absolute majority of the legal number of members of the body.

A project drafted by municipal technicians

The technical document was drafted by the municipal Urban Planning team, which defined the characteristics of the new transport infrastructure:

• María Concepción Mora Martínez, municipal architect.
• José Miguel Aicart Queralt, municipal architect.
• Sergio Carda Mundo, municipal technical engineer.

The proposal was submitted to the Government Board by the delegated councilor for Urban Planning on August 14, 2026, and the agreement includes the notification of the resolution to the Urban Planning and Audit departments for the appropriate purposes.

Favorable reports prior to approval

Before the adoption of the agreement, the file included the mandatory reports that endorsed the viability of the project:

• Favorable report from the Municipal Audit Office, dated August 13, 2026, regarding the existence of available credit for the work.
• Legal report from the Secretary General, dated August 13, 2026, regarding the approval procedure.

The resolution, signed on August 21, 2026, by the delegated councilor for Urban Planning, Borja Castell Simó, concludes the administrative process.

Appeals and deadlines

Against this resolution, an optional appeal for reversal may be filed before the Hon. Mayor of the City Council within one month from the notification. Likewise, a contentious-administrative appeal may be filed before the Contentious-Administrative Section of the Court of First Instance based in Castelló de la Plana within two months, in accordance with articles 8 and 46.1 of Law 29/1998, of July 13, regulating Contentious-Administrative Jurisdiction.

The intermodal bus station is emerging as a strategic piece to structure the public transport of Benicarló and its area of influence, improving the connections of the region and facilitating the intermodality of travel for residents and visitors of the capital of Baix Maestrat.
