Barcelona quadruples the subsidy to limit tourist use of housing.

The Barcelona City Council has approved quadrupling the credit of the grant for homeowners’ associations that wish to create or modify community bylaws to limit the tourist use of dwellings, increasing it from 56,000 to 200,000 euros. The measure, approved by the Government Commission at its session of 30 July 2026, also extends the deadline for submitting applications until 31 December 2026. The agreement is published in the Official Bulletin of the Province of Barcelona (BOPB) of 4 August 2026, with reference CVE 202610129772.

The original call, published in the BOPB of 26 February 2026, regulates the grant to homeowners’ associations in the city of Barcelona for the creation or modification of community bylaws in order to limit tourist use in dwellings. The aim is to provide economic support to residents who decide to legally protect their buildings against tourist activity, within the framework of municipal policies to contain housing for tourist use.

The credit increases from 56,000 to 200,000 euros

The modification of Article 3 of the call extends the budget credit of the grant line, which increases from a total amount of 56,000.00 euros to 200,000 euros. This is an increase of almost four times over the initial allocation.

The expansion, however, is subject to the relevant allocation by the Barcelona City Council and the consequent credit availability in the corresponding fiscal year by the IMHAB, which will assume payment of the grant through the Balance account with code 485.

Deadline open until 31 December 2026

The modification of Article 5 extends the application submission deadline until 31 December 2026. With this change, interested homeowners’ associations have practically five more months to process the documentation and submit the grant application.

Processing and publication of the agreement

The agreement was adopted by the Government Commission of the Barcelona City Council on 30 July 2026 and signed by the secretary general, Jordi Cases i Pallarès. The approved text establishes:

• Extend the application submission deadline until 31 December 2026.
• Extend the budget credit of the call, from 56,000.00 to 200,000 euros.
• Publish the agreement in the BOPB and on the City Council website.

With this modification, Barcelona homeowners’ associations have more resources and more time to adapt their bylaws and limit the tourist use of dwellings, a key tool in the city’s housing policy. The budget increase multiplies by more than three the programme’s capacity to reach new communities before the end of the year.
