Badajoz approves its final 2026 budget: 261.5 million in spending
Por FactBox Admin

The Badajoz City Council has finalized the credit modifications that rebalance the accounts for the fiscal year and has published the resulting budget, with a total expenditure of 261,549,793.56 euros. The announcement, signed by the Mayor-President Ignacio Gragera Barrera, is disseminated in the Official Gazette of the Province of Badajoz number 205, dated October 26, 2026, under reference Announcement 4226/2026.
The origin of the operation lies in the agreement of the Most Excellent Plenary Council of September 24, 2026, which approved a budget modification file in the form of extraordinary credits, 010/2026/9, and two files in the form of credit supplements, 020/2026/3 and 020/2026/4. All three were initially published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Badajoz number 186, dated September 29, 2026 (announcements 3753/2026, 3754/2026, and 3755/2026), with a public exhibition period of 15 business days to submit claims and suggestions to the Plenary.
No objections and process closed
As no objections were filed against the files, the City Council now presents the 2026 budget once the approved modifications have been introduced, in accordance with article 169.3 of Royal Legislative Decree 2/2004, of March 5, which approves the Revised Text of the Law Regulating Local Treasuries. This procedure makes the plenary agreements final and leaves the municipal accounts ready to be executed with the new credits.
The document does not detail the individual amount of each of the three files, but rather the aggregate result on the municipal budget, which is what remains fixed in the provincial gazette.
Expenditure status, chapter by chapter
The summary by chapters of the total credits of the expenditure status is as follows:
- Chapter 1, personnel expenses: 58,361,465.17 euros.
- Chapter 2, expenses for current goods and services: 64,597,448.81 euros.
- Chapter 3, financial expenses: 479,266.98 euros.
- Chapter 4, current transfers: 34,332,699.62 euros.
- Chapter 5, contingency fund and other unforeseen events: 50,000.00 euros.
- Chapter 6, real investments: 86,773,062.45 euros.
- Chapter 7, capital transfers: 16,865,850.53 euros.
- Chapter 8, financial assets: 90,000.00 euros.
- Chapter 9, financial liabilities: 0.00 euros.
- Total expenditure status: 261,549,793.56 euros.
Real investments are thus consolidated as the second largest block of expenditure, only behind current expenditure on goods and services, and ahead of capital transfers.
Income: weight of transfers and financial assets
The income status, with final forecasts, is distributed as follows:
- Chapter 1, direct taxes: 63,572,769.69 euros.
- Chapter 2, indirect taxes: 8,106,783.36 euros.
- Chapter 3, fees, public prices, and other income: 18,799,626.92 euros.
- Chapter 4, current transfers: 60,731,385.06 euros.
- Chapter 5, capital income: 2,852,000.00 euros.
- Chapter 6, disposal of investments: 3,351,650.00 euros.
- Chapter 7, capital transfers: 18,918,790.63 euros.
- Chapter 8, financial assets: 85,216,787.90 euros.
- Chapter 9, financial liabilities: 0.00 euros.
The total revenue forecast coincides with the expenditure forecast, 261,549,793.56 euros, so that the budget remains balanced. The absence of financial liability operations in both statements and the weight of financial assets and transfers, both current and capital, in municipal financing are noteworthy.
What this means for the municipality
With the publication in the Official Gazette of the Province of Badajoz, the 2026 accounts of the Badajoz City Council are definitively closed, and the departments and the comptroller’s office may commit the expanded credits, including the 86.7 million destined for real investments. The announcement also closes the claim process opened in September and sets the reference figure for the control of budget execution for the remainder of the fiscal year.
