City councils and provincial councils open competitive exams and public calls for hundreds of positions

The Official State Gazette number 203, dated Wednesday, August 19, 2026, publishes in its section II.B (Competitive examinations and contests) dozens of resolutions from city councils and provincial councils opening selection processes to fill civil service and labor staff positions. Among the calls, those from the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (BOE-A-2026-17917), the City Council of Coslada (BOE-A-2026-17922), and the City Council of Viladecans (BOE-A-2026-17931) stand out, along with three resolutions from the Provincial Council of Huelva.

The rules for each process were previously published in the corresponding provincial or regional official gazettes, and the announcement in the BOE now opens the application period. Most of the calls are resolved through competitive examination-contest or competitive examination systems, in the open category, with specific reservations for people with disabilities.

Competitive calls in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

The resolution of August 13, 2026, from the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria calls, via a competitive contest system, for two positions in the General Administration scale, Technical sub-scale and Superior class, assigned to the Special Administration Body of the Municipal Cleaning Service:

• One position for Head of Administration Service.
• One position for Head of Cleaning and Waste Management Service.

The rules were published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Las Palmas number 84, dated July 15, 2026. The application period is fifteen business days from the day following the publication in the BOE. The resolution is signed by Councilor Esther Lidia Martín Martín.

Competitive examinations in Coslada and Viladecans

The City Council of Coslada (Madrid), by resolution of August 12, 2026, calls for two First-Class Officer (Painter) positions via competitive examination-contest in the open category: one for civil service staff and one for permanent labor staff. The rules appear in the Official Gazette of the Community of Madrid number 187, dated August 7, 2026, and the deadline is twenty calendar days. It is signed by the Acting Mayor-President, Fernando Romero Castro.

The City Council of Viladecans (Barcelona) calls, by resolution of August 13, 2026, for a total of fifteen positions via competitive examination-contest in the open category, with rules published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Barcelona on August 11, 2026:

• One position for Senior Legal Technician (Legal Advice).
• Three positions for Senior Legal Technician (Legal Management and Advice).
• One position for Senior Legal Technician (People and Talent).
• Two positions for Senior Legal Technician (Public Procurement).
• One position for Specialist Technician in Environmental Education.
• One position for Intermediate Resource Management Technician.
• Five positions for Social Worker.
• One position for Specialist Library Technician.

The application period is twenty business days. The resolution is signed by the Deputy Mayor of the Area of Internal Government and Municipal Resource Management, Joana Sánchez Morillo.

The Provincial Council of Huelva, the largest volume of positions

The Provincial Council of Huelva publishes three resolutions dated August 13, 2026, totaling nearly fifty positions. The first (BOE-A-2026-17925) calls for seven Drafter positions via a competitive examination process for internal promotion. The second (BOE-A-2026-17926) calls for five Psychologist positions (three general and two specializing in Clinical or General Health) via open competition. The third (BOE-A-2026-17927) is the most extensive, with 39 positions via open and reserved competition:

• Two positions for General Administration Technician.
• Eight positions for Senior Legal Technician.
• Two positions for Intermediate Management Technician and two for Intermediate Technician (one in Economics and Payroll).
• Two positions for IT Technician.
• Seven positions for Administrative Assistant and nine for General Administration Assistant.
• Four positions for Assistant and three for Messenger-subaltern reserved for people with disabilities.

A calendar of interest for candidates

The same issue of the BOE also includes calls from city councils such as Zalla, Ocaña, La Mojonera, Logrosán, Santa Eulària des Riu, Lloseta, Montilla, Mengíbar, Altea, A Pobra do Caramiñal, and the Provincial Council of Valencia, as well as the resolution from the City Council of Molinicos which nullifies its previous call. For applicants, the publication in the BOE marks the start of deadlines between 15 and 20 business days; therefore, it is advisable to consult the rules of each process in the corresponding provincial gazette and submit the application within the deadline.
