Castilblanco City Council approves plan against forest fires

Final approval by the municipal Plenary

The Plenary of the City Council of Castilblanco (Badajoz) definitively approved the municipal action plan for forest fire risk in the municipality, known as the PAM, in an extraordinary session held on 29 July 2026. The approval was signed by the Mayor-President, Fernando Gallego Abellán, and the resolution was published as Notice 3240/2026 in Official Gazette of the Province of Badajoz No. 156, of 17 August 2026, in the Local Administration section.

Purpose and scope of the plan

The objective of the PAM is for the bodies of local entities located in areas at risk of forest fire to establish a permanent and updated system of information, forecasting, alert and response to emergencies of this nature. This system must be capable of protecting the population at risk and, as far as possible, preventing or at least reducing the damage that may be caused to essential goods and services, using the local means and resources available.

Integration into the general emergency plan

The plan establishes that the forest fire protection system must be fully integrated into the general organisation of the Municipal Emergency Plan of Castilblanco. In this way, the City Council has a structured framework that allows a coordinated and permanent response to the eventuality of forest fires in the municipal area, one of the municipalities in the Extremadura region with the largest forest area.

Documentation and appeal routes

The complete file and the full text of the plan are available to interested parties at the municipal offices of Castilblanco. Against the final approval agreement, which exhausts the administrative route, a contentious-administrative appeal may be lodged with the Contentious-Administrative Chamber of the High Court of Justice of Extremadura, within two months counted from the day following the publication of the notice, in accordance with articles 10 and 46 of Law 29/1998, of 13 July, regulating the Contentious-Administrative Jurisdiction.

Context in the forest fire campaign

The approval of the PAM coincides with the summer period of greatest risk of forest fires in Extremadura, an autonomous community that every year faces numerous outbreaks of fire during the months of July and August. The implementation of this plan by the City Council of Castilblanco reinforces the prevention and response capabilities of a municipality located in a high-risk area, contributing to the protection of residents and the natural heritage of the region.
