IGVS grants to rehabilitate housing in the Camiños and in the Ribeira Sacra

The Galician Institute of Housing and Land (IGVS) has announced the 2026 program of grants for rehabilitation and renovation actions in the comprehensive rehabilitation areas (ARI) of the Camino de Santiago and Ribeira Sacra, through the Resolution of August 4, 2026 (procedure code VI408Q). The call was published in the Official Gazette of Galicia number 158, dated August 21, 2026, and its summary appears in the National Grants Database with the identifier BDNS 925651.

The Camino de Santiago area was declared on December 17, 2010, and expanded on April 12, 2019, to include the Winter Way and the Portuguese Way along the Coast, such that its scope currently affects 664 parishes in 126 municipalities across the four Galician provinces. For its part, the Ribeira Sacra area was declared by resolution of the president of the IGVS on February 21, 2020. Both areas are managed directly by the IGVS, under Article 53 of Law 1/2019, of April 22, on rehabilitation and urban regeneration and renovation of Galicia.

Credit and distribution

The grants will be made effective charged to the budgetary application 11.81.451A.780.3 of the general budgets of Galicia for 2026, for a total amount of 2,830,000 euros, distributed as follows:

• ARI Camino de Santiago: 2,030,000 euros.
• ARI Ribeira Sacra: 800,000 euros.
• Total: 2,830,000 euros.

If there is a surplus in one of the areas, it may be used to finance applications from the other, and the amount may be increased by resolution of the head of the General Directorate of the IGVS, following its publication in the DOG.

Who can apply

Beneficiaries may be communities of owners and groups of communities constituted according to Article 5 of Law 49/1960, of July 21, on horizontal property, as well as groups of owners and natural persons who are owners or usufructuaries of buildings or dwellings. It will be a necessary requirement to be in possession of the definitive qualification.

Deadline and processing

The grants are processed through a non-competitive concurrence procedure, until the available credit is exhausted. The deadline for submitting applications is one month and begins to count five business days after the day following its publication in the DOG, and may be submitted from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. In any case, the deadline will end at the moment the budgetary credit is exhausted, which will be made public in the DOG.

The resolution, signed in Santiago de Compostela on August 4, 2026, by the general director of the IGVS, Heriberto García Porto, is governed by the regulatory bases contained in the Resolution of October 23, 2023, which already called for the program for 2023 and which also applies to the areas of the Atlantic Islands National Park, excluded from this call due to the absence of provisional qualification applications.

The call represents an opportunity for owners and homeowners’ associations throughout Galicia to finance the rehabilitation of their homes in areas of high heritage and tourist value, contributing to the conservation of the urban and rural fabric of the Camino de Santiago and the Ribeira Sacra.
