Undergrounding of a power line authorized in Aranda de Duero

The Territorial Service of Industry, Commerce, and Economy of Burgos, under the Ministry of Environment and Energy, has granted the prior administrative and construction authorization for the undergrounding of the medium-voltage power line LAMT 13.2 kV 4768-14 “Centro 1” (“Aranda Sur” substation), between supports no. 13502 and no. 13503, in the municipality of Aranda de Duero (Burgos). The decision is detailed in the Resolution of September 1, 2026, published in the Official Gazette of Castilla y León number 178, dated September 14, 2026, with reference BOCYL-D-14092026-178-13 and file ATLI/29511.

A network improvement that buries the overhead wiring

The action, promoted by the distributor I-DE Redes Eléctricas Inteligentes, S.A.U., consists of the installation of a new medium-voltage underground section 196 meters in length, with conductor HEPR-Z1 12/20 kV 3(1x240) mm² AL + H16, which will replace 137 meters of overhead power line to be dismantled. The project represents an improvement to the distribution network in the urban area of Aranda de Duero, with a positive impact on both supply reliability and the urban landscape.

The application was submitted by the company on March 31, 2026, and the notice of processing was published on July 2, 2026, in the B.O.C. y L. and on the website of the Junta de Castilla y León, without any objections being received.

Processing and consulted bodies

During the procedure, separate copies were sent to the potentially affected bodies to gather their conditions:

Irrigation Community of the Queen Victoria Eugenia Canal

None of them formulated conditions, therefore the processing of the file continued.

Conditions of the authorization

The construction authorization is granted in accordance with the applicable technical regulations and with several conditions:

The works must be executed according to the submitted project and the conditions of the affected bodies.
The execution period is three years starting from the notification of the resolution.
The holder must communicate the completion of the works for final recognition and the extension of the operating authorization.
Non-insulated overhead parts must comply with Royal Decree 1432/2008, regarding the protection of avifauna against collision and electrocution.

The resolution, signed by the Head of Service, María Dolores Velasco Lajo, is issued without prejudice to other required authorizations or licenses. An administrative appeal may be filed against it within one month before the Director General of Energy and Mines.

Relevance for the residents

The undergrounding of this medium-voltage line will eliminate a section of overhead wiring in the urban center of Aranda de Duero, which improves the safety and aesthetics of the environment and reduces the risk of power supply incidents. The work, which must be completed within a maximum of three years, is part of the modernization of the distribution network in the province of Burgos.
