The start of the Nebrija Institute of Avilés has been authorized

The Department of Science, Industry, and Employment of the Principality of Asturias has authorized the commencement of activities for the Nebrija Institute University Center of Avilés, affiliated with the Antonio de Nebrija University. This is established by the Resolution of September 9, 2026, published in the Official Gazette of the Principality of Asturias (BOPA) number 176, dated September 11, 2026, with official reference 2026-07473.

The authorization allows the new university center to begin its academic activity in the 2026/2027 academic year, after verifying compliance with the requirements demanded by the applicable regulations. The center, with RUCT Code 33024642, is affiliated with the Antonio de Nebrija University (RUCT Code 052).

A milestone starting with Decree 111/2025

The path toward this authorization began with Decree 111/2025, of October 14, published in the BOPA on October 21, 2025, which authorized the affiliation of the center with the Madrid-based university. The decree itself set a two-year deadline to request the start of activities and required accreditation of the completion of works on the buildings that will house the center.

The application for authorization was submitted on May 8, 2026, completed with complementary documentation sent on various dates over the following months. Following the verification carried out by the General Directorate of Universities, it was determined that the center meets the requirements established in Royal Decree 640/2021, of July 27, and in Decree 90/2009, of July 29, on Official University Education and Centers of the Principality of Asturias.

Three campuses in Avilés and one official degree

The center will carry out its activities in three buildings in the city of Avilés:

• Plaza Domínguez Álvarez Acebal no. 5 (main campus).
• Calle de la Cámara, 23, second floor.
• Calle San Bernardo, 35, Palacio de Camposagrado.

The authorization extends to the provision of teaching leading to the official degree valid throughout the national territory:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from the Antonio de Nebrija University (RUCT Code 2502438).

Deadlines and appeals

The resolution concludes the administrative process. A contentious-administrative appeal may be filed against it before the Contentious-Administrative Chamber of the High Court of Justice of Asturias within two months of its publication, or, optionally, a motion for reconsideration before the same body within one month; both appeals cannot be pursued simultaneously.

The launch of the Nebrija Institute of Avilés represents a reinforcement of the university offering in the Avilés region, which for the first time incorporates a center affiliated with a private university offering a degree in Nursing, thereby expanding the educational and healthcare training options available to students of the Principality.
