Auriga BESS batteries authorized in Renedo de Esgueva

The Territorial Service of Industry, Commerce, and Economy of Valladolid has granted the prior administrative authorization and the administrative construction authorization for the battery storage system called «BESS Auriga», hybridized with the photovoltaic installation currently in service «FV Auriga Solar», in the municipality of Renedo de Esgueva (Valladolid). The decision was adopted via Resolution of July 29, 2026, published in the Official Gazette of Castilla y León number 169, of September 1, 2026, with reference BOCYL-D-01092026-169-12 and file FV-2380-ALM ATCE-271.

The application was submitted on March 13, 2026, by the entity Planta FV 114, S.L.U., with registered office at calle Princesa 2-4.º A in Madrid and NIF B84808344, under articles 8 and 12 of Decree 46/2022, of November 24, which regulates the authorization procedures for electrical installations in Castilla y León. The project was subject to public consultation for 20 business days through an announcement published in the gazette on June 10, 2026, with no objections filed.

Key storage for renewable hybridization

The objective of the project is the construction of a lithium-ion battery storage module that hybridizes with the photovoltaic plant already in service, evacuating energy to the grid through the same connection point. The installation has the access and connection permits issued by i-DE Redes Eléctricas Inteligentes, SAU, for an installed capacity of 12,000 kW and a granted access capacity of 24,960 kW.

The main technical characteristics of the system are:

  • Installed capacity: 12,000 kW and storage capacity of 48,000 kWh (4 hours).
  • System composed of 12 lithium-ion (LFP) battery containers.
  • 47 bidirectional PCS converters of 231 kW and 9 PCS converters of 127 kW.
  • 3 transformation stations of 5.14 MVA and an auxiliary services transformer of 500 kVA.
  • Voltage at the connection point of 45 kV, with the delivery point at the Renedo 220/45 kV Substation.

Evacuation and environmental processing

The evacuation infrastructure relies on the existing infrastructure of the plant, with 30 kV underground lines connecting the transformation stations to the Auriga 30/45 kV Substation (ATSB-108) and the 45 kV overhead-underground line (ATLI-50921) to the distributor’s substation. The project, drafted by Josu Barredo Egusquiza and endorsed by COIIM-Madrid under number 202504574, affects cadastral plot 47134A001000050000PF of polygon 1 in Renedo de Esgueva.

During the processing, the Territorial Environmental Service was consulted regarding the exemption from the simplified environmental impact assessment, in accordance with Royal Decree 997/2025, as well as the Renedo City Council, which did not issue a report within the deadline. The installation is exempt from the compliance report on criteria for renewable energy projects provided for in Decree-Law 2/2022, of June 23.

Conditions and deadlines

The authorization is granted without prejudice to third parties and the necessary municipal licenses or sectoral permits. The maximum term for the issuance of the operating authorization may not exceed five years from obtaining the access and connection permits, with the possibility of an exceptional extension in accordance with Royal Decree-Law 8/2023 and Royal Decree-Law 7/2026. An administrative appeal (recurso de alzada) may be filed against the resolution before the Director General of Energy and Mines within one month.

The resolution, signed by the technical secretary Isabel del Blanco Álvarez, represents a relevant step in strengthening the stability of the renewable supply in the province of Valladolid, by allowing the storage of generated photovoltaic energy and its manageable discharge into the grid, contributing to the integration of renewables and the security of the electrical system.
