Asturias grants 68,148 euros to eleven town halls for their municipal museums

Por FactBox Admin

The Regional Ministry of Culture, Linguistic Policy and Sport of the Principality of Asturias has granted subsidies for a total amount of 68,148.34 euros to eleven city councils to finance investment expenses in municipally-owned museums and museographic collections during the 2026 financial year. This is established by the Resolution of August 18, 2026, signed by the regional minister Ana Vanessa Gutiérrez González, published in the Official Gazette of the Principality of Asturias (BOPA) No. 169, of September 1, 2026 (official reference Code 2026-07072).

The aid is part of Line 2B of the call for applications under a competitive bidding process aimed at local entities of the Principality. The regulatory bases were approved by Resolution of November 10, 2025 (BOPA No. 225, of November 21, 2025), and the 2026 public call was approved by Resolution of March 6, 2026 (extract published in BOPA No. 54, of March 19, 2026).

Processing and evaluation

The Evaluation Commission, appointed by Resolution of May 5, 2026, issued the evaluation report of the submitted applications at its meeting on July 6, 2026. In view of the minutes and the report of the instructing body, the Cultural Institutions and Heritage Protection Service formulated the final grant proposal that is now being resolved.

The expenditure is financed through budget item 21.03.455E.762.167 of the General Budgets of the Principality of Asturias. The eligible activities must be executed between January 1 and December 31, 2026, and the justification of expenses must be submitted before January 31, 2027.

Beneficiaries and amounts

The subsidies are distributed among eleven city councils, with amounts ranging from 13,364.69 euros for Avilés to 1,817.02 euros for Tineo:

  • Grado City Council (file AYUD/2026/25163): 11,297.00 €
  • Cabranes City Council (AYUD/2026/25199): 7,650.00 €
  • Somiedo City Council (AYUD/2026/25330): 4,241.60 €
  • Santa Eulalia de Oscos City Council (AYUD/2026/25181): 6,467.89 €
  • Carreño City Council (AYUD/2026/25150): 2,879.80 €
  • Quirós City Council (AYUD/2026/25186): 5,468.89 €
  • Tineo City Council (AYUD/2026/25183): 1,817.02 €
  • Gijón City Council (AYUD/2026/25152): 6,838.80 €
  • Cangas del Narcea City Council (AYUD/2026/25338): 2,425.00 €
  • Avilés City Council (AYUD/2026/25331): 13,364.69 €
  • Grandas de Salime City Council (AYUD/2026/25178): 5,697.65 €

Inadmissible application

The resolution denies the application of the Castropol City Council (file AYUD/2026/25146), which requested 27,000 euros for the drafting of the basic execution project for a museum and exhibition space. The reason for the denial is the submission of a project not included in the scope of the grant.

Beneficiaries must provide documentary evidence of the expenses incurred and the application of funds to the Cultural Institutions and Heritage Protection Service, and payment will be made in full via bank transfer. This resolution concludes the administrative process; a contentious-administrative appeal may be filed before the High Court of Justice of the Principality of Asturias within two months.

The call for applications strengthens the network of Asturian municipal museums and museographic collections, a key instrument for the cultural integration of the territory and to enable small councils to maintain and improve their heritage facilities with regional funding.
