Asturias dismisses two general directors of Education

The Governing Council of the Principality of Asturias, upon the proposal of the Minister of Education, Eva Ledo Cabaleiro, has agreed to the dismissal of two senior officials of the Ministry of Education: César González Prieto, as Director General of Teaching Staff, and Paula Fernández León, as Director General of Centers and the 0-3 Year Network. Both dismissals are formalized through respective decrees signed on August 27, 2026, and published in the Official Gazette of the Principality of Asturias (BOPA) number 167, dated August 28, 2026.
The decrees, which thank the dismissed officials for their services, were adopted at the Governing Council meeting held on August 27, 2026, and signed by the President of the Principality of Asturias, Adrián Barbón Rodríguez, and by the Minister herself.
Regulatory Framework
The dismissals are issued in accordance with Article 10.6 of the Law of the Principality of Asturias 8/1991, of July 30, on the Organization of the Administration, in relation to Articles 25.l) and 38.e) of the Law of the Principality of Asturias 6/1984, of July 5, on the President and the Governing Council. Both provisions authorize the Governing Council to agree on the dismissal of directors general upon the proposal of the head of the competent ministry.
The Two Dismissals
- Decree 57/2026, of August 27: provides for the dismissal of César González Prieto as Director General of Teaching Staff (official code 2026-07264).
- Decree 59/2026, of August 27: provides for the dismissal of Paula Fernández León as Director General of Centers and the 0-3 Year Network (official code 2026-07266).
Both decrees were issued in Oviedo on August 27, 2026, and are published in the Authorities and Personnel section of the Ministry of Education in the BOPA.
Relevance for the Educational Community
The simultaneous departure of the heads of Teaching Staff and of Centers and the 0-3 Year Network represents a high-level renewal within the Ministry of Education, with a direct impact on the management of Asturian teaching staff and the network of early childhood education centers for ages 0 to 3. The publication in the BOPA makes the dismissals effective and opens the door to the appointment of the new heads of both general directorates.
