Por FactBox Admin

The Department of Education of the Principality of Asturias has approved Order EDU of August 10, 2026, published in the Official Gazette of the Principality of Asturias (BOPA) number 174 of September 9, 2026, which establishes the procedure for the recognition of “Llume” educational projects in Asturian and approves the regulatory bases for granting aid to the teaching centers that develop them. The regulation, signed by the counselor Eva Ledo Cabaleiro, enters into force twenty days after its publication.
A recognition of linguistic excellence
The “Llume” educational project aims to recognize the excellence of teaching centers in the teaching, promotion, and dissemination of the Asturian language and Galician-Asturian/Eonavian. It is framed within the mandate of the Statute of Autonomy of Asturias (Organic Law 7/1981), which guarantees the protection of Bable and its teaching, and Law 1/1998, of March 23, on the use and promotion of Bable/Asturian, which ensures its teaching at all educational levels within school hours.
Beneficiaries may include public centers and private centers supported by public funds at non-university levels that teach the area or subject of Asturian Language and Literature, provided they have not received aid for this project in the previous four academic years.
Annual call and aid
The Department will issue an annual call, published in the National Subsidy Database (BDNS), with an extract in the BOPA. Each call will establish the calendar, the economic allocation, and the registration forms. Recognized centers will receive an accrediting plaque and, if budget availability permits, financial aid, the amount of which will be determined in each annual resolution.
- Processing is carried out under a competitive bidding regime, with a priority order among projects.
- The final score is expressed from 0 to 1,000 points, with a tie-break by public draw should the tie persist.
- The maximum period to resolve and notify is six months from the publication of the call extract.
- Payment is made in a single installment, within an estimated period of three months.
Project requirements and evaluation
The “Llume” project must detail the center’s actions in the area of Asturian Language and Literature and the degree of integration of the language into academic and cultural life. It must be written entirely in Asturian or Galician-Asturian/Eonavian, be original in nature, and respect the principles of Organic Law 2/2006, of May 3, on Education, incorporating elements of educational inclusion, sustainability, a competency-based approach, and coeducation.
The assessment will consider the quality of the project, the context and situation of the school center, and its track record in related initiatives. An assessment commission, chaired by the head of the general directorate competent in academic organization and composed of officials with accreditation in Bable/Asturian, will prepare the proposal for the final resolution.
Impact for the educational community
With this order, the Principality consolidates a stable regulatory framework to reward the efforts of centers in the promotion of the Asturian and Eonaviego languages, simplifying and homogenizing the processing of successive calls. The regulation, which has received a favorable report from the School Council of the Principality of Asturias, reinforces the protection of Asturian linguistic heritage and its dissemination among Primary, Secondary, and Baccalaureate students.
