Legislative Assembly extends the state of exception

The Legislative Assembly of the Republic of El Salvador approved Decree No. 645, through which the state of exception—the country’s most relevant security measure, which suspends certain constitutional guarantees within the framework of public security policy—is extended. The decree was published in the Official Gazette, Volume No. 452, Number 158, corresponding to Thursday, August 27, 2026, on pages 3 to 5.
The regulation was sanctioned at the Presidential House on the same August 27, 2026, with the signatures of the President of the Republic, Nayib Armando Bukele Ortez, and the Minister of Public Security and Justice, Héctor Gustavo Villatoro, who endorse the legislative decree for its promulgation and validity.
