Por FactBox Admin

The Somozas City Council opens the public call for competitive grants for families for the acquisition of school materials for the 2026/2027 academic year and for travel expenses for students of intermediate or higher vocational training and university degrees. The decision, signed by Mayor Juan Alonso Tembrás on August 21, 2026, is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of A Coruña number 163, dated August 27, 2026, with announcement number 2026/5590 and identifier BDNS 926057.
The call, the full text of which is available in the National Grants Database, aims to promote equality in the exercise of the right to education and to compensate families for the expenses derived from the schooling of their sons and daughters. The grants are compatible with others from public or private entities, provided that the total does not exceed the cost of the subsidized material.
Budget and beneficiaries
The maximum budget for the grants is 12,000 euros, charged to budget item 2026.320.480.00. If the total amount exceeds the allocated sum, a proportional reduction will be applied to all granted aids.
Natural persons who are fathers, mothers, guardians, or foster families of minors, as well as adult students, may apply for the grants. In the case of baccalaureate, vocational training cycles, and university degrees, applicants cannot exceed 25 years of age nor have work earnings exceeding 5,000 euros. Studies must be pursued in public centers and on a face-to-face basis.
Amounts according to level and income
The amounts vary depending on the educational level and the income limit of the family unit, calculated based on the IPREM:
- Early Childhood, Primary, ESO, and Basic Vocational Training: 200 euros up to half of the income limit; 100 euros between half and the maximum permitted.
- Baccalaureate: 250 euros up to half of the limit; 125 euros between half and the maximum.
- University degrees: 500 euros.
- Intermediate or higher cycles: 300 euros.
Annual income limits range from 29,400 euros for 2-member units up to 54,600 euros for 6-member units. Students with a recognized disability degree equal to or greater than 33% by the Xunta de Galicia receive the maximum amount regardless of income limits.
Deadline and documentation
Applications shall be submitted at the General Registry of the City Council or through the Electronic Office of the Somozas City Council, from the day following the publication in the BOP until September 30, 2026. Documentation includes the application, ID (DNI), family book, 2025 income tax return (IRPF), proof of enrollment for the 2026/2027 course, and bank certification of the IBAN, among others.
The instruction corresponds to the Evaluating Commission, chaired by the mayor, and the provisional and final resolutions will be published on the notice board and on the municipal website. Beneficiaries will have a maximum period of 20 calendar days to justify the grants, with invoices issued from July 1, 2026, being accepted.
The call represents direct support for families in As Somozas with children enrolled in school for the coming year, in a context of rising costs for books and school materials, and furthermore facilitates the mobility of students in vocational cycles and university degrees who travel to their educational centers.
