Arucas aprueba definitivamente el plan de movilidad sostenible para el periodo 2026-2032

The Arucas City Council has definitively approved the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) of the municipality of Arucas 2026-2032, an instrument that establishes the framework for municipal mobility for the next six years. The decision was adopted by the Plenary of the City Council in an ordinary session held on March 27, 2026, and is now made public in the Official Gazette of the Province of Las Palmas number 133, dated Friday, November 6, 2026, in announcement 3.008 (reference 2.244.180).

A file processed and resolved through objections

The agreement closes a procedure that begins with File 18.621/2024 and is formally titled “Resolution of objections and definitive approval of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan of Arucas 2026-2032.” The operative part of the agreement is structured into six points and is supported by a chain of previous reports:

  • Proposal report from the Special Administration Technician in Law, with the conformity of the Head of Urban Planning, dated March 17, 2026.
  • Favorable opinion from the Urban Planning Information Commission, held on March 23, 2026.
  • Technical report dated March 16, 2026, incorporated into the file and forming an integral part of the agreement.
  • Final document with the assessment of objections presented by the drafting company, under the title “Report on objections and public participation.”

On this basis, the Plenary first resolved the objections presented during the public information process of the SUMP, in the terms collected in the final document of the drafting company and ratified by the Municipal Technical Report.

Definitive approval with changes to the initial document

The second point of the agreement definitively approves the SUMP of Arucas 2026-2032 “with the modifications derived from the acceptance of the objections” collected in the public participation report. In other words, the plan that has been approved is not identical to the one initially submitted for exhibition: it incorporates the corrections accepted after the public consultation period.

The agreement also includes a mandate for transparency and dissemination. It orders the publication of the text in the Official Gazette of the Province, on the electronic office, and on the municipal transparency portal, and stipulates that the final document remain available to the public for consultation at the electronic office of the Arucas City Council.

  • Official publication: Official Gazette of the Province of Las Palmas number 133, November 6, 2026.
  • Municipal dissemination: electronic office and transparency portal of the Arucas City Council.
  • Citizen consultation: final document available at the municipal electronic office.
  • Institutional dissemination: transfer to the Department of the Presidency to give “the widest possible dissemination” to the agreement and the full content of the plan.

Notification to the administrations with affected competencies

The sixth point of the agreement mandates that the file be forwarded to the public administrations whose competencies may be affected, with mandatory mention of the competent services of the Cabildo Insular de Gran Canaria and the Government of the Canary Islands, for their eventual knowledge. This is the procedure that connects municipal planning with insular and regional competencies regarding roads, transport, and land-use planning.

The announcement bears the signature of the mayor, Juan Jesús Facundo Suárez, and is dated in the City of Arucas on November third, two thousand twenty-six. The full text of the agreement can be consulted on the physical notice board of the City Council and on the municipal electronic office.

The final approval turns the SUMP (Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan) into the mandatory reference document for any municipal decision on mobility in Arucas during the 2026-2032 period, from road design to traffic calming measures and the promotion of public transport. For residents, the plan ceases to be a draft under consultation and becomes applicable regulation; for the City Council, it means having a formally approved framework before the Cabildo Insular de Gran Canaria and the Government of the Canary Islands, which enables the coordination of actions and access to supra-municipal funding lines linked to mobility planning.
