Arrecife announces grants of 100,000 euros for outstanding athletes.

Por FactBox Admin

The Arrecife City Council has announced grants totaling 100,000 euros for outstanding athletes in the municipality, charged to the 2026 budget. The call is formalized by resolution of 10 August 2026, the extract of which appears in the Official Gazette of the Province of Las Palmas, number 97, of 14 August 2026 (reg. 1705021, p. 14688), with identifier BDNS 924533. Federated athletes registered as residents of Arrecife who have achieved notable results in official competitions during 2025 or the 2025-2026 season may apply.

The call is processed under a competitive bidding procedure and is governed by the Specific Ordinance of the Regulatory Bases for Grants of the Sports Department (File 10652/2026), finally approved in the Official Gazette of Las Palmas number 78, of 1 July 2026, in accordance with Law 38/2003, the General Grants Law, and Royal Decree 887/2006, which approves its Regulations. The full text can be consulted in the National Grants Database (infosubvenciones.es). The resolution is signed by the delegated councillor for Finance, Echedey Eugenio Felipe.

Requirements and merits required

Athletes who meet all the conditions set out in the bases may be beneficiaries:

  • Having administrative residence in Arrecife continuously for the two years prior to the application.
  • Having turned 16 years old and holding a valid federation license.
  • Having ranked among the top three in the Canary Islands or Spanish Championship, or among the top ten in the European or World Championships.
  • Being up to date with tax obligations and Social Security and not being disqualified from receiving public aid.

Excluded are those with a final sanction for a serious or very serious disciplinary infringement in sports matters, those who did not attend official calls for the Canary Islands or Spanish national teams, and those competing in championships with fewer than four participants. Those competing in individual and doubles events may only request assessment for one of the two categories.

Amount: up to 2,999.99 euros per beneficiary

The aid is financed through budget line 340 4820846, “General Administration of Sports. Grants to Outstanding Athletes”, endowed with 100,000 euros. The maximum amount per beneficiary will be 2,999.99 euros; in the doubles categories, the amount is allocated individually and nominatively to each member. If the calculation exceeds that cap, the difference will be redistributed proportionally among the remaining applications.

  • The amount is determined by a formula that weights the score obtained by each application over the total points of all those assessed.
  • The aid is compatible with other subsidies for the same purpose, except those from the Arrecife City Council itself, and may never exceed the cost of the activity.
  • The assessment includes criteria such as classification in Canary Islands, Spain, Europe and World championships, Olympic Games, achievements with the Spanish national team, disability or being a woman, membership in a club from Arrecife and the DAN/DAR badge.

Deadline of ten business days and submission

Applications may be submitted within ten business days from the day following the publication of the notice in the BOP of Las Palmas through the BDNS. They should preferably be submitted through the Arrecife City Council Electronic Office (arrecife.sedelectronica.es) with an electronic certificate; those who lack electronic means may go to the municipal Registry Office (Avda. Vargas, 1) and, if Correos is chosen, a copy of the receipt must be sent to deportes@arrecife.es within the deadline.

Together with Annex I of the application, the following must be provided: ID card, census registration certificate with a minimum seniority of two years, federation license, responsible declaration, certificates from the Canary Islands, Spanish federations or the Higher Sports Council depending on the criterion invoked, a descriptive report of the merits, and third-party data registration with IBAN.

The call consolidates the Arrecife City Council’s commitment to competitive and grassroots sport, by providing economic recognition to local athletes who project the municipality at the regional, national and international level. For those interested, the ten-business-day deadline requires expediting the collection of the federation documentation that certifies the results.
