Arona nombra oficial de Policía Local tras cubrir cinco plazas

The Arona City Council has appointed José David García Brito as a career civil servant in the position of Officer of the Basic Scale of the Local Police Force, following the completion of the selection process convened to fill five vacancies in that category. The decision was adopted through Resolution No. 2026/6988, dated September 29, by the Deputy Mayor of the Government Area of Human Resources and Housing, and was made public in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands No. 209, dated October 20, 2026, in announcement No. 3612, page 37871.

The announcement, dated October 6, 2026, and signed by Deputy Mayor Rafael Martínez Muñoz, is inserted in Section V, “Announcements,” under the heading “Other announcements” and within the Local Administration block, under the rubric of the Arona City Council (Tenerife). The position corresponds to the Special Administration Scale of the municipal civil service personnel and is filled on a permanent basis, consolidating the intermediate command structure of the local security force.

Permanent assignment to position POL-F-10

The appointment is specified for a single person and a precisely identified position within the municipal staff:

  • José David García Brito, with ID ***0206**, appointed as a career civil servant of the Arona City Council.
  • Position assigned on a permanent basis: POL-F-10, Local Police Officer.
  • Category: Officer of the Basic Scale of the Local Police Force, of Special Administration.

The resolution specifies that the occupied position is one of the vacancies in the city council’s civil service staff; that is, it is not an interim coverage or a secondment, but rather the stable incorporation of personnel into the municipal roster.

Five positions convened and a single appointment published

The text places the origin of the appointment in the selection process aimed at filling five positions of Officer of the Basic Scale of the Local Police Force of Special Administration, all of which were vacant in the civil service staff of the Arona City Council. However, the announcement published on October 20 details a single appointment resulting from that process, that of José David García Brito, meaning the coverage of the remaining convened positions is not reflected in this specific administrative act.

The document does not include details of the tests, the scores of the selection process, nor the number of applicants who completed it; it limits itself to recording that the procedure has ended and that the resolution from the Human Resources and Housing area enables the appointment as a career civil servant.

Appeal process against the act

The announcement warns that the appointment concludes the administrative process, meaning it may be challenged through two alternative routes:

  • Optional appeal for reversal (recurso potestativo de reposición) before the same body that issued the resolution, the Deputy Mayor of the Government Area of Human Resources and Housing.
  • Contentious-administrative appeal before the Contentious-Administrative Jurisdiction.

The publication in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands thus serves as general notification and begins the countdown of the deadlines for those wishing to challenge the decision.

The appointment reinforces the staff of the Local Police of Arona in a middle-management category, that of officer, which is key for shift organization and operational coordination on the ground in a municipality with strong tourist activity. The permanent appointment to position POL-F-10 provides stability to the structure of the force and closes, at least for one of the five called positions, a selection process that directly affects security and the quality of public service in the municipality.
