Argentona opens rental and mortgage aid for single-parent families
Por FactBox Admin

The Argentona City Council has approved the regulatory bases for grants intended to alleviate rent or mortgage expenses for the primary residence of single-parent families registered in the municipality. The text is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Barcelona on October 7, 2026, with the official reference CVE 202610149923, and bears the signature of the mayor, Montserrat Capdevila Cañadas, dated October 5, 2026. The call for applications, which will specify the amounts and the deadline for submitting requests, is yet to be published.
The bases are framed within Law 38/2003, of November 17, General Law on Subsidies, and are disseminated as an extract, with the full text available for consultation in the National Subsidy Database. The aid is managed through the council’s social services area and is subject to the allocation of sufficient credit in the current municipal budget.
Requirements and income threshold
To qualify for the grant, the following conditions, among others, must be met:
- Hold a single-parent family card according to current regulations.
- Be registered at the residence for which the aid is requested.
- Not exceed the income threshold: the sum of the net income of the family unit cannot exceed 1.6 times the annual Sufficiency Income Indicator of Catalonia (IRSC) of the current year for the primary member.
- Apply an adjustment factor of 30% for each additional member of the family unit.
- Count each descendant with a disability preventing them from working as two members.
- Not fall under any of the exclusion cases of article 13.2 of Law 38/2003.
How the funds are distributed
The maximum budget and the maximum individual amount will be established in the call for applications, and under no circumstances can grants be awarded above the planned amount. The procedure will be based on competitive bidding, under the principles of publicity, transparency, objectivity, equality, and non-discrimination.
If the requests exceed the available amount, a list will be formed in order from lowest to highest family unit income. The processing will be the responsibility of the Social Services of the Argentona City Council, and an evaluation commission will verify compliance with the requirements:
- Presidency: the Councilor for Social Services.
- Members: technical staff from the Department of Social Services and the person responsible for the office or administrative staff of the area, who will perform the duties of the secretariat.
Application, deadlines, and control
The application shall be submitted using the standard form at the general registry of the Argentona City Council within the deadline set by the call for applications, accompanied by:
- Rent or mortgage receipt for the last three months.
- Payslips for the last three months.
- Income tax return (IRPF) for the previous year or a sworn statement of income.
- Bank statement for the last six months.
- Bank transfer request form.
The council may officially verify the census certificate (empadronament), current payment status with Social Security and the Tax Agency, the absence of debts with the city council, the status of pension or unemployment benefit recipient, the single-parent family title, and the disability degree certificate. If the documentation submitted is incorrect or incomplete, there will be ten business days to correct it.
The maximum period for resolution is three months from the closing of the application period, and notification must be made within ten business days from the approval of the resolution. The lack of a resolution within the deadline has the effect of dismissal. Payment will be made in a single installment, upon presentation of supporting documents, although exceptional advances may be provided.
The aid is compatible with other subsidies from any administration or public or private entity, provided that the sum does not exceed the total cost of rent or mortgage expenses. The subsidies granted will be published in the National Subsidies Database and on the municipal transparency portal, and non-compliance may lead to the reimbursement of the amounts received.
With these guidelines, Argentona launches a direct support instrument for the household economy of single-parent families, a group with a housing expense burden often higher than average. However, the actual scope of the measure will depend on the budget allocation and the deadline set by the call for applications pending publication.
