Aretxabaleta's Haurreskola has renewed its permit with a new name

The Minister of Education has modified the authorization of the Aretxabaleta Municipal Nursery School, renovating the facilities, removing two units for 2-3 year olds, and changing the specific name of the center. The decision was made via the Order of August 27, 2026, and will be effective from September 1, 2026, as it was published in the Official Gazette of the Basque Country (BOPV) number 169, with official reference 2026/3807.

The Order was signed by the Minister of Education, María Begoña Pedrosa Lobato, in Vitoria-Gasteiz, following the analysis of the file requested by the Aretxabaleta City Council (Gipuzkoa). The center is located at number 8 Belorrieta Street, in the town of Aretxabaleta, and operates as a public nursery school.

Content of the authorization change

The Order includes three main changes: the renovation of the facilities, the removal of two units for children aged 2-3, and the change of the specific name. Consequently, the center will be registered in the Registry of Non-University Educational Institutions of the Basque Autonomous Community from September 1, 2026, with the following data:

• Center codes: 013220 (CAPV) and 20012845 (universal).
• Generic name: Municipal Nursery School (EIMU).
• Specific name: «Aretxabaleta Nursery School – Pausoka».
• Owner: Aretxabaleta City Council.
• Address: Belorrieta, 8, Aretxabaleta (Gipuzkoa).

Authorized teaching

After the renovation, the center will continue to provide the first cycle of Early Childhood Education, but with a new distribution of units:

• 3 units for children aged 0-1, each with 8 school places.
• 4 units for children aged 1-2, each with 13 school places.

Thus, after removing the two units for 2-3 year olds, the center will only accept the 0-2 age range.

Obligations and resources

The Order reminds that the center may not use any other name for identification that is not registered in the registry, according to Article 13 of Organic Law 8/1985. Likewise, it must use the generic name, specific name, and center code in all communications with the administration and in advertising.

The owner must comply with the regulations regarding the number of school places, equipment, and the academic qualifications and language profile of the teachers. Furthermore, the center must comply with the Technical Building Code (Royal Decree 314/2006) and the conditions of hygiene, health, acoustics, habitability, safety, and accessibility; otherwise, the authorization may be revoked.

Against the Order, a resource for reconsideration may be filed before the Minister of Education within one month, or an administrative appeal may be filed before the High Court of Justice of the Basque Autonomous Community within two months, starting from the day following its publication in the BOPV.

The changes reorganize the nursery school offering for families in Aretxabaleta, with renovated facilities and a new name, aimed at the 0-2 age group. By clarifying the center’s registration data and offering, the council and families can know with certainty what services will be offered in the 2026-2027 academic year.
