Aragón grants Rocaragón the El Estrecho mining permit in five municipalities

The Government of Aragon has granted the company Rocaragón, SL the mining exploration permit “El Estrecho” number 3592, intended for copper, lead, and zinc mineralizations over an area of 288 mining grids. The decision corresponds to the Directorate General of Energy and Mines and was formalized by resolution on September 8, 2026. The announcement is published in the Official Gazette of Aragon number 181, dated September 17, 2026, with official reference BOA20260917010.

The text is signed by the Director General of Energy and Mines, María Yolanda Vallés Cases, and is disseminated “in compliance with the provisions of articles 61.1 and 101.5 of the General Regulations for the Mining Regime, approved by Royal Decree 2857/1978, of August 25”. The permit is registered under Section C) of the mining regulations, which covers mineral resources whose exploitation requires a concession, and the competent body depends on the Department of Economy, Competitiveness, and Employment of the regional Executive.

A perimeter of 288 grids between Zaragoza and Huesca

The permit covers a total of 288 mining grids distributed between two provinces, with the following territorial delimitation:

• Santa Eulalia de Gállego, province of Zaragoza.
• Murillo de Gállego, province of Zaragoza.
• El Frago, province of Zaragoza.
• Luna, province of Zaragoza.
• Agüero, province of Huesca.

The resources subject to exploration are, “especially,” copper, lead, and zinc mineralizations, according to the official text. The permit is named “El Estrecho” and is identified by number 3592.

Official publication and access to the file

The resolution was issued on September 8, 2026, and the announcement was made public nine days later, in number 181 of the regional gazette, within section V. Announcements, subsection b) Other announcements. The official reference of the document is BOA20260917010.

The publication responds to the obligation to publicize the granting of exploration permits, so that the resolution and the cartographic delimitation of the perimeter remain accessible for public consultation at the Department’s electronic office.

Antillón: the Teruel precedent of the same company

The Aragonese concession is not the first that Rocaragón, SL has received this month. The Official Gazette of Aragon number 175, dated September 9, 2026 (reference BOA20260909019), published the granting of the exploration permit “Antillón” number 6,645, also consisting of 288 mining grids and in favor of the same company.

In that case, the resolution was issued by the director of the Provincial Service of Teruel, Lucía Villalba Valenzuela, dated July 17, 2026, and the affected resources were manganese, copper, lead, zinc, and others. The included municipalities were:

• Segura de Baños, Montalbán, Vivel del Río Martín, La Hoz de la Vieja, and Martín del Río, all in the province of Teruel.

Both announcements fall under the same regulatory framework, although the one from Teruel is publicized solely under article 101.5 of the aforementioned regulation.

Impact for the affected municipalities

The granting opens the door to mining exploration work in a territory that encompasses five municipal districts of the Hoya de Huesca and Cinco Villas regions, with the consequent expectation of economic activity and employment in the extractive sector. At the same time, the decision affects residents, environmental groups, and the Aragonese mining sector as a whole, who are interested in knowing the real scope of the boreholes and the state of conservation of an environment of high natural value. The official publication allows for the consultation of the resolution and the demarcation map, a preliminary step to any allegation or monitoring of the file.
