Aragón announces grants for educational olympiads for the 2025-2026 academic year

The Department of Education, Science and Universities of the Government of Aragon has announced grants for the organization of educational olympiads and other activities that assess student performance during the 2025-2026 academic year. The call is formalized through Order ECU/1292/2026, of August 24, published in the Official Gazette of Aragon number 174, of September 8, 2026, in section III of Other Provisions and Agreements (reference BOA20260908012). The order, signed by counselor Carmen M.ª Susín Gabarre, is framed within the regulatory bases for grants regarding innovation, equity, and educational participation approved by Order ECD/312/2016, of April 12, whose Chapter X of Title II specifically regulates these aids. The call is financed from the department’s budget for the 2024 fiscal year, extended until the approval of the Budget Law for 2026, and is processed under a competitive bidding regime.

Purpose and eligible activities

The organization of educational olympiads or any other activity that meets the following requirements is considered eligible for subsidies:

• That students compete intellectually, in teams or individually, in a constructive, committed, and reflective manner.
• That they promote effort and academic performance in scientific, linguistic, or social subjects of the Primary, Secondary, or Baccalaureate curriculum.
• That students from at least five educational centers in the Autonomous Community of Aragon participate.
• That they take place during the 2025-2026 academic year, according to the school calendar, and up to August 31, 2026, inclusive.

Beneficiaries and amount of aid

Universities or legally constituted non-profit entities based in Aragon, with scientific, mathematical, linguistic, or social objectives, may qualify as beneficiaries. Teaching centers whose primary purpose is to provide non-university education are excluded. Each entity may only submit one project, although universities may submit one per center, faculty, or degree.

The funding is divided between two budget allocations, with maximum amounts of 12,000 euros and 8,000 euros. The amount of the grant will not exceed 80% of the total eligible cost of each activity, and is scaled according to the score obtained:

• Activities that exceed 80% of the score: 80% of the expenditure, with a limit of 3,000 euros.
• Activities that exceed 70%: 80% of the expenditure, with a limit of 2,000 euros.
• Activities that exceed 60%: 80% of the expenditure, with a limit of 1,500 euros.

Assessment and processing

Applications will be evaluated by a Assessment Committee chaired by the head of the Educational Policy Service, with four specialist civil servant members. The assessment criteria include the curricular relevance of the activity (up to 20 points), the number of participating centers and students (up to 20 points), the existence of a national phase (10 points), the improvement of motivation and learning (up to 15 points), the adequacy of the budget (20 points), and the consolidation of the activity (up to 15 points). Projects must achieve a minimum of 50 out of 100 points to be eligible for subsidies.

Applications shall be submitted electronically through the Electronic Office of the Public Administration of Aragon, addressed to the General Directorate of Educational Policy, Organization, Equity, and Training. The deadline is ten business days starting from the day following the publication of the summary in the bulletin. The counselor must resolve the procedure within a maximum period of three months from said publication.

Relevance for Aragonese centers

The call reinforces public support for academic competitions that stimulate the study of subjects such as mathematics, biology, or geography and reward the effort of Aragonese students. By financing activities that require the participation of at least five centers, the order promotes collaboration between educational centers and scientific and social entities of the community, with a direct impact on teachers and students of Primary, Secondary, and Baccalaureate Education.
