Aragón opens public information period for 2,600-sow farm in Huesca

The Aragonese Institute of Environmental Management (INAGA) has opened the public information process for the basic project of Integrated Environmental Authorization to convert a pig fattening operation into a piglet production farm with a capacity for 2,600 breeding sows in Tabernas de Isuela, in the municipality of Huesca. The announcement is published in the Official Gazette of Aragon number 170, dated September 2, 2026, and sets a period of thirty days to submit allegations and observations.

The application was submitted by Agropecuaria del Isábena, SL, with NIF B22258750, and corresponds to file INAGA 500305/02/2025/06550. The process is initiated in accordance with Article 55 of Law 11/2014, of December 4, on Environmental Prevention and Protection of Aragon, as an integral part of the environmental authorization procedure.

The project and its scope

The action consists of changing the production focus of a pig fattening operation to a piglet production operation, located in polygon 503, plot 2, of Tabernas de Isuela. The technical characteristics of the project are:

• 2,600 breeding sows with their piglets up to 6 kg.
• 400 replacement sows.
• 6 boars.
• Total capacity equivalent to 707.80 LSU.

The announcement indicates that the execution of the project will not produce significant environmental effects on another European Union Member State.

Competent bodies and deadlines

The competence to resolve the request for Integrated Environmental Authorization corresponds to the Aragonese Institute of Environmental Management, while it is the responsibility of its Director to grant, if applicable, the authorization, which constitutes the final administrative resolution against which appropriate appeals may be filed.

• The deadline to submit observations, allegations, and inquiries is thirty days from the day following the publication of the announcement in the Official Gazette of Aragon.
• The basic project is available for consultation at the INAGA electronic office.
• Public participation must be carried out exclusively electronically, in accordance with the fourth additional provision of Law 10/2013, of December 19, of the Aragonese Institute of Environmental Management, as amended by Law 1/2021, of February 11, on administrative simplification.

The announcement, signed in Zaragoza on August 12, 2026, by the Head of Area III, Diana Remón Galindo, is framed within the Department of Environment and Tourism of the Government of Aragon.
