Aragón opens 400,000 euros in grants for defense SMEs

Por FactBox Admin

The Government of Aragon has opened a call for 400,000 euros for Aragonese small and medium-sized enterprises to position themselves in the defense, security, and dual technologies industry, a strategic sector for reindustrialization and skilled employment. The measure is articulated through Order ECE/1276/2026, of August 24, by the Counselor of Economy, Competitiveness, and Employment, Eva Valle Maestro, published in the Official Gazette of Aragon number 172, of September 4, 2026 (official reference BOA20260904001).

The order approves the regulatory bases, proceeds with the call for the 2026 financial year, and modifies the Strategic Subsidy Plan of the Department of Economy, Employment, and Industry 2024-2027 to incorporate this new line. Management is the responsibility of the Aragonese Institute of Development (IAF), an entity attached to the department, and the grants are awarded on a competitive basis and under the de minimis regime.

Purpose and beneficiaries

The purpose is to incentivize the positioning of Aragonese SMEs in the defense value chain, subsidizing expenses for registrations, certifications, quality systems, product homologation, security clearances, proposal preparation, consortia, tenders, and public procurement for innovation. The call is limited to Line 1 of support services for positioning in the defense industry.

SMEs that carry out their activity in Aragon and are classified under any of these headings of the CNAE 2025 may apply:

  • Section C: manufacturing industry, codes 10 to 33.
  • Section K: telecommunications, computer programming, consultancy, and computer infrastructure, codes 61 to 63.
  • Section R: health and social work activities, codes 86, 87, and 88.

Amounts and criteria

The total allocation amounts to 400,000 euros, charged to the IAF budget application for the 2026 financial year. Each grant may not be less than 5,000 euros nor exceed 30,000 euros, and the maximum aid intensity will be:

  • 70% of the eligible amount for startups and micro-enterprises.
  • 50% for the rest of the small and medium-sized enterprises.

Applications will be evaluated up to a maximum of 100 points, based on the degree of innovation and impact in the field of defense (up to 65 points), participation in public programs such as the IAF’s Diverdef Program or the Aragón Defence Hub ecosystem (up to 25 points), and the type of company (up to 10 points).

Deadline and submission

Applications must be submitted electronically through the Electronic Office of the Administration of Aragon, using procedure number 11826. The submission period is fifteen business days starting from the day following the publication of the call in the Official Gazette of Aragon. The summary of the call, with identifier BDNS 921581, is published in the announcements section of the same gazette (official reference BOA20260904010).

The call is part of the Government of Aragon’s commitment, together with the Ministry of Defense, to structure the sector through the Aragón Defence Hub, in line with the European Defence Industrial Strategy (EDIS) and the 2026 Defence Technology and Innovation Strategy. For Aragonese SMEs, this line represents a concrete opportunity to integrate into strategic high-value-added supply chains, access national and international tenders, and attract highly qualified employment in a rapidly expanding sector.
